This use to be such a wonderful school! My daughter started here in 1st grade and is now a 5th grader. After the restructuring, the school has been on a steady decline. They boast about having the only MAC computer lab in the district, but according to my daughter, they NEVER use it anymore! The STEM program just isn't what it use to be, the classroom is full of disruptive kids and it just isn't an ideal learning environment anymore. Parent participation use to be top notch, now they have to BEG parents to help out. Even though my daughter has remained a high honor role student, this will be her last year at Indian Creek. What a shame.

It's our 2nd year at Indian Creek and I have no complaints. My daughter is now a 2nd grader, and she is excited for everyday! The class projects are fun and seem to engage all the students. Mrs. Flandermeyer is a wonderful teacher.

After the restructuring, this once wonderful school has gone dramatically downhill. The STEM curriculum has been changed, teachers aren't trained tas well, and the students have major discipline problems. It is an extremely poor learning environment.

Wow! Interesting how this school is given a 10 out of 10 here, but on School Digger they give it a ONE out of FIVE. Demographics truly don't look promising.

There are are lot of troublemakers in my child's second grade class and I don't think the teachers and staff can keep up. There is roughly a 28 kid to student ratio which I feel is too high. There needs to be more assistants for the teachers.

We had always heard such wonderful things about Indian Creek, but we haven't seen that in our first year there. Lawrence Township was restructured for the 2010-11 school year, and we haven't been impressed for our 1st grader. There are so many troublemakers in her class (not to mention in the rest of the school) that the teachers and staff can't keep up. They don't appear to have much in the way of consequences and they aren't very effective. We are seriously considering private school for next year.

excellent school. My daughter was lucky to get Mr. Nelson for 4th grade, he is a good teacher. Overall I am very satisfied with Indian Creek.

Our experience with Indian Creek has been a positive one. The student projects have all been interesting and my child is enthusiastic about them. The outdoor lab is a nice extra for the kids to learn from. There are after school clubs the kids can be a part of throughout the year (different art clubs, explorer club, etc.). I am so thankful my child is able to attend such a great school.

Indian Creek is so full of positive energy for intellectual stimulation for the kids, and the parents are the most engaged I've ever seen. The curriculum is rigorous, but the kids don't seem to complain. Its everything a school should be--challenging, engaging, and fun!

Indian Creek has a wonderful curriculum filled with science, math and technology. Students benefit from thoughtful, engaging teachers who truly care about education. The administration works hard to ensure a quality learning environment for all students. The parent body is involved and supportive of the school and it's students.

My son is a first grader at Indian Creek and I have been really impressed with how well he is doing there! He has really taken off with his reading and more importantly he enjoys to read, and he has become really good with math! I feel like his teacher has done a great job preparing these kids for the future. They are even starting a Power Point presentation this month! With no doubt I feel like IC is the best school for my son!

My daugther has done very well at this school in 4 years. Her teachers are great. The pace is much too slow for her, especially in math and science. She is bored a lot. I think the school is much better than the neighboring options but does not live up to my expectations. There are no parent-teacher conferences in the spring and as a result, I am emailing the teacher or stopping by to gather information as it comes up. Again, my daughter has done well here and she will be prepared for middle school in a different district.

I have been an Indian Creek Parent for over 10 years and 3 children. I can't say enough good about this school. The teachers are passionate and creative, and the administration seems to support the teachers without getting the way. Some examples - Pioneer week is a fourth grde activity to support learning about Indiana history. It is interactive curriculum that includes a lot of time in the schools outdoor lab which includes a log cabin, a covered wagon and a pond. Valley Forge Day supports fifth grade's study of the Revolutionary War. The students all becomes inductees into Washingtons Army and rotate through 7 stations throughout the day. Professional re-enactors and volunteer parents help make this a realistic glimpse into what Washingtons soldiers must have felt. It is a great school. This is our last year, and the whole family will miss being part of Indian Creek

My daughter attends this school and in just the past few months she is reading at a 3rd grade level and excelling in math and science. They also offer a lot of extra curricular activities that help keep the children well rounded. I wouldn't have her attend anywhere else.

My son is in second grade and he is reading at a 3-4 grade level. He is improving a lot in math and his teacher makes it fun for them to learn. There is a lot of volunteers day to day and parents are involved. They also promote for parents to go and visit their kids for lunch and a lot of parents do. The office staff is very helpful and they know all the kids. They are doing a great work on exposing the kids to what future holds, a world full of technology. My secod grader uses Power Point, Word and the Internet without any difficulty. Projects are challenging but appropriate to their age.

Indian Creek has been a blessing for our kids. We've had 4 children that either went to or are currently going to Indian Creek. Compared to the regular neighborhood schools like Skiles Test, where they could barely get parents to participate, begging them to go on field trips, there's waiting lists for most classes at Indian Creek. The teachers communicate well, behavior is generally not a problem because kids are drawn into the learning at Indian Creek. Denny Brooks and his staff do it right and hopefully the rest of Lawrence would follow. Unfortunately, Indian Crerek sets kids up for a fall when they get to the ill ran middle schools that are madhouse zoos and are the reason we will be leaving Lawrence Township.

The quality of academic programs is great. The kids have homework and projects that they enjoy doing while they are learning. My kids are excited about going to school everyday because everyday is like an adventure.

I was impressed by all of the science and technologhy that the kids would be exposed to. I am disappointed in the way that they teach the kids to read and write. I would expect a magnet school to be a little more rigorus. Since the school boost of science and technology, I feel that there should be even more emphasis on math and reading. Overall, I think the school is good for kids that have a high interest in science and computers. They really do get to participate in a lot of interesting activities. This helps children keep interest in school. I currently have 2 children at the school.

I have been very happy to send my child to Indian Creek. The amount of homework and projects seems a bit high but in reality is not. I have seen growth in my child and that is what is all about. This is an elementary school preparing our children for the next step.

The public relations department does an excellent job selling this school because most of the parents think it is fantastic. If they only knew what their kids were missing because Indian Creek does not prepare their students properly. There is little or no homework. The math is not very strong. There are many interesting activities to keep the parents thinking their kids are getting this great education. The Dig is nice but it's only a very superficial approach and the students get little out of the experience except a time to socialize. Parents do a lot of the projects for their kids. Discipline was a problem because the teachers didn't know how to handle problem kids. The good students missed out on valuable learning time because some of the teachers were constantly screaming. Their voices carried and it was unsettling. The school has gone downhill.

average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
