Lapel is in desperate need of new educators with new progressive skillsets for the children that this district serves. The special ed dept lacks direction and leadership with teachers who need patience, persistence, and the ability to motivate students to achieve their goals. The team does not have the ability, skills, training, or knowledge to encourage or motivate the children with disabilities, nor the patience and flexibility to guide them in finding new and creative ways to learn their coursework, which is often the single most effective characteristic a special ed teacher can possess. Learning disabled students are all unique individuals to be encouraged no matter where they fall on the spectrum, however at Lapel, with the same staff in place for many, many years, no new ideas are ever formulated, and children are singled out, ranked according to behavior, when the special ed teacher is unable to control herself on many occasions, without consequence from the district. The temperament of the educators is a vital part of the stability of a good district and their student's achievements and Lapel MS is the POOREST example of helping students who need help the most.
