La Lumiere offers such a unique experience in so many ways. The students receive a tremendous amount of attention from the faculty and staff. They can call anytime of day or night if they have a problem or a concern or simply want to talk. There is an element of accessibility that offers the students comfort and mutual respect and that is comforting to parents who entrust their students to this school. I have never seen/heard of a place like La Lumiere and yes there are plenty of boarding schools but the people here really make a difference. Everyone on staff knows all of the kids by names and has a genuine interest/concern for each and every child. La Lumiere has a 100% graduation rate and many of the students end up at the top schools in the country. La Lumiere is a sure thing and provides an emotional/spiritual education in addition to academics/physical fitness. They have over 100 acres to learn, explore, enjoy and cherish. I can't say enough about it. It's completely self-funded so yes La Lumiere does reach out to the community for support and the community recognizes the special things happening at La Lumiere as they have kept it going since 1963. I will send all of my kids!

This is a great school. I have been so impressed with the quality of life here, especially this year. Yes, it is incredibly hard, even for people who have been able to be A students their entire life, without much effort. They expect your best, and if you don't put forth exactly that, then they will hassle you until you get there. The people (both the students and faculty) are amazing. All the work is worth it just for the unique and wonderful people I have been taught by, and those I have had the pleasure to learn with. It is an experience one really has to experience to understand, and I am glad I have had the opportunity.

I love this school! My son attends this year. He is a border. This is the BEST thing that could have happened for him. We are planning to send our other son next year.

Very fake people. I f you don't 'donate' monetary gifts, your child may not be taught well.

The best school for my child. The best money I ever spent. Maybe not the best place for everyone, but look at the recent grads and you will see polite, prepared, and successful men and women. la Lumeire is a unique place to learn, and a great envrionment to prepare you for college and the real world. In a time when schools dont care about their kids because State and Federal mandates tell them to get teh test scores higher, this is a refreshing place where they care about the student's learning.

La lumiere is a good school, if you want to buckle down and learn it helps. Although the campus is insipring and beautiful the people inside aren't as they may seem.

I am a freshman at La Lumiere, and I am in the class of 2012. The best part of the school is the people that go here. They are all intelligent, fun people. The faculty is very friendly and helping, and the athletics are really awesome. The school is a private boarding/day school with students from everywhere. The curriculum is good, it requires at least 20 credits for graduation. E mathematics require 4 years each, and science/foreign language requires 3 years. The student life is very demanding, and prepares you rigorously for college. We write papers almost constantly and have an intense English program. The school has a uniform, which for me is dress pants, a dress shirt, a tie, belt, a blazer, dress socks, and dress shoes. The school has required physical activities for everyone, whether they be a sport or not. I really recommend this

We are new to this school this year and it has not met our expectations. Some teachers are great, others are just like public schools. Not worth the money.

I am not a teacher, but I am a student that currently attends LaLumiere school. I love boarding here and being with my friends all the time. The academics are wonderful and the teachers are all so nice and helpful, plus the greatest thing is the small classes. This way we get more one on one time with the teacher. I love it here and highly recommend it.

After looking at the public HS school in our area and other private schools we choose to send our son to LaLumiere. What a great decision. The faculty is top notch, especially in Math and Science. Student to faculty ratio is 6:1 and the largest class my son has is with 12 others. The teachers interact with student more like I would expect in college. Hearing a student ask a teacher a question like 'what method would you use determine the area of a slice of pizza' during lunch on a field trip was incredible. And then hearing the teacher suggest several ways and challenging the student to take this back to his table and 'bounce it around' was really enjoyable. The advance/honors courses receive dual credit from Purdue and faculty is very responsive to inquiries. Best decision we every made!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
