I am a mom of two John Wood students, both of the kids entered as kindergartners. Every teacher has been wonderful to work with. Any concern I have ever had has been handled in a professional and prompt manner. I really feel like all of the support staff knows my kids. We have had fun participating in school events. In a year our youngest starts at John Wood and he is excited to go to the big kid school. And I am excited for him to go too!

My daughter has attended John Wood since kindergarten and she is entering into fourth grade this year. We have had a very positive experience during her time at the school. Each of our daughter's teachers have been caring, compassionate, and engaging. The faculty and staff of John Wood go to great lengths to provide the highest quality of instruction. The class sizes are small and my daughter has always received support when needed. We are always kept informed her grades and progress through the online grade book system. Any correspondence with the teachers and principal have been promptly returned. I have another child entering kindergarten this year and another to follow. I am happy and proud that my children attend John Wood Elementary School.

I'm the parent of one Wood graduate and a current student. I was leery of enrolling my children in a Merrillville school, but Wood has been awesome! Merrillville School Corp. does not offer parent-teacher conferences until late January, which is unacceptable, as parents need to know before the second semester how their children are doing; however, the teachers are always willing to meet after school, via telephone or email when students are experiencing difficulties. I think the only downfall to Wood is the fact that their parent and teacher participation in school events is rather low. You see the same teachers at the events, and it would be nice to see additional teachers and staff participate. Children and parents like seeing the teachers active in their school events. If I had to recommend any elementary school in MVSC, I'd certainly recommend Wood to all.

I now have my third child in John Wood and it is as good now as it was than! I appreciate all the effort every facility and staff give that school and their students, all my children have developed great learning and study skills that will carry with them through out college. My son entered kindergarten this year and it's been an absolute blessing to have him at john wood elementary school. His teacher Mrs. Steele is very in tune and when my son exhibited signs that could turn into an intolerable problem she caught it early and called me with questions and ideas on how to reinforce good behavior and how to block out bad ones.my son has quickly picked up on what is expected of him. the staff is awesome, and they're always very polite and helpful. The principal made sure we met her on the day we went for kindergarten testing she let us know that she is very reachable in case we needed to contact her for any reason that shows me that she is committed to her job.I also love the letter people series they use to introduce the alphabet and the analogical approach to math it's wonderful.

John Wood Elementary has taught me to the extreme. I have accomplished so much. I am now in eighth grade and ever since i left John Woood I have been getting staight a's. John Wood has prepared me for my life in education. Thank you and every child should attend John Wood!
