Terrible school. My son was afraid to eat in the cafateria because of the bullying and fights. I had a meeting with an English teacher because my son was doing poorly. She had far worse grammer than myself, my son, or my foriegn born husband. Her overall negative attitude and hostility towards me for scheduling the meeting was very uncomfortable. I came home from the meeting and put my house up for sale.

Terrible school, I have one out, one in, and another will be going in the next 2 years. The teachers and staff, most of them, not all, are more concerned with being the kids friend and being cool then discipline or structure. The children who need help and guidance are kicked out and the ones who are habitual offenders are allowed to continue on. It all depends on who they are and, sorry to say, what they color they are. Unless you are African American, not mixed, white or Hispanic, I wish you luck not getting looked over, abused, or discriminated. I can't wait until all my kids are through pierce and at the high school, which is much better.

Very good education school. My son was scared starting because he entered in the middle of the year because we had moved to Indiana all the way from Arizona. I am very pleased with this school. and my child loves it , and WILL CERTAINLY be returning next year (:

I am a 7th grade student at Pierce, and i hate it. The children their are completely rue and they cuss to much. They never behave at all. And they put down the kids who do good in the school. Plus The majority of the student body has a IDK or an i don't care attitude when it comes to learning. Plus during my whole year at Pierce the Teachers tried but not hard enough . The school has turned completely ghetto. And i am a mixed girl an opportunity for multi racial kids is low. Since they basically rule us as the color of r skin not on who we really are. Makes learning here so much harder. Oh an the kids fight too!!!!!! much. And the sad part about it is they are proud to get suspended. That is y to me Pierce is not the best school. Butisofownexperience.

I feel if it wasn't for Mr. Woods the student or parents would receive respect that is due. Mr Woods is awesome with the student. My son is now a sophmore in high school and still look for Mr. Wood. I really appreciate Mr. Wood i wish he could be the principal rather than the one they have.

i just left pierce. im now a freshmen. yay! well pierce was a great experience for me. compared to my old school which was donald e. gavit in hammond, in. pierce gave me a lot of opprutunites that made me realize that my freshemen year i need to take advantage of them. the teachers try their best to make you feel welcome, and they teach well. especially ms.jackson.

Im a student at this school and i love it. Most of the teachers are great. The kids here are cool of course there are thoes few kids who like to bully other kids but they do a pretty good job of taking care of that

I like Pierce but I think that some students pick on kids for their race but I believe that the principal handles it well. I also believe that disclpine starts at home and that students should be taught to what behaviors are appropriate and inappropriate. I believe that the school handles bullies in the best way they can..... I know some students have recieved 5 days out or more for bullying

I agree with the review that was entered on 10/8/2008. My child is also having alot of issues with this school and the students being rude and disrespectful. My child is also half white and half black. I have contacted the school several times and have discussed this with them. I feel that not enough has been done. The school states that there is a zero tolerance for bullying, however too much of it is still going on. I understand that a students education is a partnership between parents and the school, if there is not the same amount of effort put forth by both sides it is going to fail. If the children are not taught respect and tolerance at home how can we expect them to act different at the school. There are only so many teachers to deal with a large student body.

I love Pierce! it is a really cool! i love wearing a pointless id every single freakin day just so that the same teachers i see everyday can actually call me by my name instead of pointing rudely at me! I love how the only way they know if i do not belong in the school is by not having my id on, you think they would know if they didn't recognize me. I feel no sense of belonging...just a number.

I, as a student, find it very hard to remain 'sane' at the school. The teachers are great though, it's just the students. Most are rude and just don't know when to shut up. They also make fun of kids like me, I'm half white and half black, because I don't talk like them. I wouldn't recommend this school to parents whose children are still decent.

some teachers do not know how to return phone calls ,but on a good note there is one teacher there that i think cares about the kids and that is Mr. Green. he has a after schools program called (men an a massion) it teaches kids the facts of life and etc. Keep up the good work Mr. Green

This school is way below average, they have teachers that will not return phone calls, teachers trying to teach that are physically challenged. I would not recomend this school at all and am moving to a better school district because of this school.

Because of the percentage of kids passing the isteps, people automaticly come to the conclusion that Pierce is a bad school. It isnt though. The people at Pierce, students and teachers, have open minds and are diverse and mostly accepting, because no matter where you go there will be cliques. Pierce provides many opportunities and ways for the kids to suceed. It is you and your family's choice to take the opportunities or not. I think the way Pierce conducts activities gives the kids something to think about and have fun at the same time. I appreciate the hard work and dedication of the school staff. -Pierce Parent-

i think it is a very good school with a lot of good teaching qualities to try and help the kids learn a whole lot better while still trying to have fun at the same time. The principal does a good job of trying to keep the school a good safe environment.

average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
