I have two children that have went to Cowan since kindergarten. One is in 6th grade and the other is a 4th grader. This is an excellent school. The teachers are wonderful. They care about their students and their grades. Some come in early or stay late to help with certain subjects. The principal is very hands on. He knows all of the students and strides to make Cowan the best it can be. He is always there to talk to parents and he is always willing to meet you at your earliest convenience. The teachers very passionate about teaching. This school has high standards and I would recommend them to any age group. The classes are small sizes so your child will get plenty of attention and will not be lost in the crowd. I totally disagree with the 4 Great school rating. If it were true my children wouldn't go there. "It's a good day to be a blackhawk!"
Cowan Elementary School is a GREAT small school setting. Everyone seems to be involved, care about the students and families, and it's a place where 'everyone knows your name.' My daughter's class in particular has really high parental involvement. All the teachers thus far (through 3rd grade) have been exceptional and have had great and positive impact on my child. I cannot say enough good about Cowan - wish the word was out! Would like to see more activity on teaching fundamentals of sports, and enlarging some programs - offering tennis, swimming, and such. Know there are limitations.
