My daughter is in all honors classes and participates in 3 sports all while maintaining a 3.5 gpa at Wilson. There are many caring and devoted teachers here but the principal is a joke. I have spoken to him on several occasions about concerns I've had and he's never taken me seriously. I no longer speak to the principal when I have a concern, I just go straight to the administrative building where things can be taken care of instead of being ignored.

Mortified upon a scheduled visit to observe in physical education classes - 50-70 students in a single gymnasium. NO administrative consequences for students improper dress for physical education. I truly could NOT believe what I was seeing and hearing from students and educators. This is serious stuff but yet the class was a joke. The physical education teachers need some administrative guidance w/student issues. These teachers want to teach but the circumstances are too overwhelming for any effective instruction.

My son, currently attends Wilson Middle School. He is enrolled in honors classes and is doing very well. The teachers are considered about my child and his education. We stay in contact about his grades and homework. I am having a good experience with Wilson, although it is given a bad name. I am glad I never chose to listen to others, rather than seeing things for myself. I think a big part of any child's education is the assistance of a 'Village'. Parents and teachers working together for the children make all the difference in the world in a child's education. I am proud to say that my family (my husand, son and myself) are all Wilson Panthers.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
