Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I graduated in 2003. Got a great education and met my wife here. My home high school was terrible. Indiana Academy is the only reason why I a) have traveled extensively in Asia and the US and b) am currently in medical school. It's a shame that it costs money to attend now, but I'll give back once I pay off my student debt.

I attended the academy and it was most definitely the best two years of my life. I was constantly challenged by the unique and interesting classes, and made to think in ways I had never thought possible before. Not only is it a great school academically, the experience of the Academy is the best you could ever offer your child. I formed the strongest friendships here, and became exposed to so much different culture and people from all walks of life. When you graduate the Academy, you not only graduate with an honors diploma, but also with a very open mind and a skill set you could not have developed anywhere else. The teachers and the students here are so unique because teaching or being a student is not just their 'job' it's their passion and their life. As a student, it was Ana amazing feeling being surrounded by other students who care so much about school and education.

Indiana Academy is a unique experience that will challenge your student to excel. Most of all, it will teach lessons that prepare students for the rigors of college & the professional world. Already smart teens will be challenged to develop skills & competencies such as time management, initiative, flexibility, teamwork.

Do you have an exceptional child who has a constant need to be pushed academically? Indiana Academy was the perfect place for my son to be pushed academically by taking classes like Discrete Math, Introduction to Engineering and Research Methods of Computer Science to prepare him for his dream of becoming a Computer Science Engineer. He is pushed by the teachers and his peers. This unique environment of high standard academics and highly motivated students make Indiana Academy an exceptional school. Best decision we made for our son's future!

The Indiana Academy is absolutely one of the best things that has ever come into my daughter's life. The staff is positively amazing - teachers are challenging yet encouraging, administrators caring and supportive, and the Student Life Counselors are fantastic. IASMH provides such a wonderful opportunity for intellectual and personal growth, and also provides a wide array of extracurricular and volunteer opportunities. Truly an outstanding experience!

The Academy is the first school my child has felt at "home" it. It was and still is so hard to send he,r but I have never seen her so happy or so engaged. I wish I could be a highschool student all over again and attend myself.

Growing up as a GT student, I likely would have failed out of college if it hadn't been for the study skills and self-discipline I learned while attending IASMH. The ability to learn beyond the classroom by being completely immersed in the environment as a residential student also contributed greatly to my future success. Teachers there are passionate about teaching, and do their best to encourage that above and beyond any of the requisite standardized testing. Students were taught how to *learn* and how to keep a voracious appetite for learning, instead of rote information regurgitation. While the school and environment truly aren't for every student (several of my classmates ended up returning to their home high schools), I would encourage all parents of middle-school-aged children to start the research process with their kids to determine if the Academy could be the right fit for them.

Without the Academy, I would never have gone as far in my education as I have. The faculty are stellar, creative in their lessons, and encourage critical engagement- particularly in the humanities. It is academically challenging, if you let it be, and you will be friends with the students there for life. Some of the best education Indiana has to offer!

Attending IASMH was probably the most difficult decision I've ever made. It was my first life choice, and I thank my parents for letting it be my choice and mine alone. That said, it is the best decision I could have made for my education and my own personal growth. I learned about myself: I learned what was truly important in my life, my boundaries, and the extent of my ambition. I learned to appreciate the beauty of diversity: I made friends with people I might not have given a second look otherwise, and I learned the difference between tolerance and acceptance. I learned to be a contributing member in an amazing community. Today, I am leagues ahead of most of my class at Indiana University, and I will graduate a 5 year program in 4 years with two degrees (BS of Math and MS of Education)-a feat I could not accomplish without having attended the academy. If you are, or someone you know is given this opportunity, consider it or encourge him/her to. I promise you that the experience is well worth it! -SRG, Class of 2011

As a parent who did not do well in school as a child and college was not an option. I was struggling with how to make sure my son who is a high academic achiever and a first generation college grad would be able to get the education he needed and keep him on the path to success. The academy answers my questions and have proven to be everything my son needed when it came to his education and I feel very comfortable that he is in good hands. Anytime I have a question...whether for dorm life, education, health, billing etc. I call and get an immediate answer. All around a great school with great teachers and staff!

The Indiana Academy has been an amazing opportunity for our children. Our son left a teenager last year as a junior, and came home a sweet young man! He is driven to excel, and is enjoying learning! Our daughter is attending this year as a junior, and already loving it as well! Being with other students equally driven really helps keep them motivated. They are great resources for each other, making really good friendships. The teachers are above average, class sizes smaller than most public schools. They know the students on a first-name basis. Upon graduating most Academy students earn several scholarships to continue their drive for success!

Attending this school was the best decision I ever made. I would recommend it for any student who has ever felt that their current school does not challenge them or that they do not fit in.

The Academy was the greatest decision I have made in my short lifetime. Before the IA, I never felt challenged or very involved in any of my schoolwork, I didn't have many very good friends, and I felt isolated in my conservative hometown. When I left home for Muncie at 16, I was terrified but excited. After graduating in 2012, I can easily say this was the ONLY place I needed to be for my high school career. The teachers are absolutely incredible and have been the best in my educational career, including college. I would never have been as prepared for college without the Academy, and I wouldn't have made the same strong friendships. Living away from home isn't for everyone, but I was certainly ready for it. I will always wholeheartedly support the Academy, because it made me proud to be the person I am and ready to take on the world.

IASMH was the absolute best school I've ever attended. Not only is it the best high school in the state - learning there is truly a great experience as opposed to other totally regimented schools where the only things that matter are standardized test scores - but it also fosters an open, non-judgmental environment that provides the kind of emotional and mental security and room for growth that is usually lacking in typical high schools. Without IASMH I would not have become the person I am today and I most definitely would not have gotten into such an amazing university. It's difficult to be away from home, but in the end it is absolutely worth it.

Our daughter graduated from the Academy in 2012. Although she had been in advanced/honors programs at our home school, she was never really challenged until she entered the Academy. Although she had always been a good student, the academy taught her to think critically and to study more effectively. She was well prepared for college, entering (after receiving a full tuition scholarship from a private university) with enough credits to qualify as a sophomore. It was difficult for us to have her away from home for her last two years of high school, but it was absolutely the best choice for her. She is still in contact with many of her classmates and teachers and has been encouraging her younger brother to apply.

As a former student I can say that the Indiana Academy was the best decision I ever made in my life. I learned so much there, and not just in the classrooms. It is a school that encourages you to be open minded and embrace learning. I look back to my time there and see it as a turning point in my life. I will forever be indebted to the staff and teachers there for all of their hard work and the amazing life lessons they shared with me. It really is the best school in the state of Indiana.

One of the best residential high school in the state.Very suportive teachers that has the time and the interest to meet personally with the students, a very strong curriculum, a gifted student group and many travel abroad summer opportunities and internships. My child thrived in this school. But you have to be self motivated and willing to work hard.

Our son graduated from this excellent school this year. If your child is gifted, motivated and likes to be challenged this is the place to cometo! A challenging curriculuim with very supportive teachers, a diverse student body, availability of numerous AP/Dual credit classes, focus on learning, a vibrant social mileu though lacking some in extracurricular activities makes this magnet residential school one of the best in the state.

I had 2 children go here. It is a different experience for each. Great cultural diversity. Good security and extracurriculars since kids stay in dorms. All classes are like AP classes. Teachers really care about kids. Difficult for parents to participate in school activities since school has kids from all over the state and you may not live close. Your child must be responsible and self-motivated to go here.

The Indiana Academy is clearly the best school in the state. It allows students to live in a social, safe environment while learning to be independent. The administration is kind and willing to help out in any case; teachers have specified office times designed for students to seek help in the respective course. Courses are very challenging, and designed for the brightest of students.

As a former student I realize now that i'm in college that i learned a lot from going to this school. It's a very difficult school though and not for everyone. I would say that if i could go back knowing what i know now i would choose to stay at my original school. that is just a personal preference though. I felt like they didn't allow any social life and that hurt me as i am a social person.
