I found it interesting that someone commented that it was 'sad' that there are police patrolling the halls. This is not because of the school system, teachers, or administrative staff. The reason for the police and for the bad reviews of the school are the students. Jennings county is filled to the brim with violent, abusive and undereducated people. The children of these people attend our public schools. I'm sure the teachers are doing the best they can, considering what they have to work with. To say the teachers and staff are 'uncaring' is completely unfair. They are literally fighting a war each day, especially with the kids that go to the high school.

JCHS is the greatest school ever! I love our sports here, most of the teachers, and all of our extracricular activities. It is a great school and I wouldn't choose anywhere else!

There is no quality. This school system really stinks. there is no parent teacher communication. There is no student teacher communication. The quality of everything in this system is 15 years outdated. We need help in JCHS system.

Jennings County High School does not deserve the reputation it has. The students can determine how far they go and how well they do. It should be no surprise that the 'college bound' classes and the 'advanced placement' classes will better serve a person who is preparing themselves for college. Unfortunately, altogether too many students take regular classes and expect to go to college with enough experience under their belts. Sure, there are a few teachers who wouldn't go down in my book as amazing, but there are so many more who would. Many teachers in this school put their hearts and souls into their career. Give them credit! I think our administration is doing the best they can considering what is at their disposal. The principals truly care.

Jennings County Hing School is not a good place for a student to go to school. There is no parent involvement and there is also no student involvement. The academic programs are not any good. If u wnat your child to be smart and seccecful then stay away of jchs. I would not recmend it.

I think the math department as some problems though. they do have some good teachers though. Not naming any names. I know of a student that had an F the first semester then switched teachers and now he has a B. Go figure.

My son is currently in the 9th grade. This is his first year at JCHS. My son had received one on one help from his math teacher. Where there was once a feeling of I can t there is now a belief that I can. His Science, English and Math teachers are so excited about what they teach that my son comes home full of chatter of what he has learned that day. The teachers are so respectable to the students that my son now has a lot of respect for himself and others. My son wanted to try out for wrestling. He is a big boy 6 foot 2 and at the time weighing 325 pounds. The coach worked with my son one on one and he slimmed down to 227 pounds and still losing weight.

Though there is always room for improvement, JCHS did a good job preparing me for college. (Examples: I scored 1330 on my SAT. I scored high 90's on all parts of my ISTEP exams. I was accepted to all five of the colleges I applied to-all of which were somewhat to very competitive in admittance. I will graduate in one year with a B.S. in Biology and a Business Minor from Indiana Univeristy.) The addition of more upper-level science courses was especially worthwhile for me personally. There are some truly amazing teachers at JCHS, and some that are not as good. All in all, a student must take the initiative to excel. Nobody can force initiative upon anyone else! The apathy of parents and students is the main reason JCHS gets a bad reptuation. Never forget the vital role of parents in encouraging success.

Jennings County High School is lacking in caring and supportive teachers and staff. The staff doesn't provide assistance for troubled students. When I attended JCHS it was a very caring and supportive school. Since the adminstration has changed the school has gone downhill. Considering we have police officers walking the halls of the high school and middle school now, I feel this is pretty sad.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the End-of-Course (ECA) assessment to test students in middle and high school in Algebra I, Biology I, and English 10. The ECA is a criterion-referenced assessment developed specifically for students completing their instruction in Algebra I, Biology I, or English 10. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
