i am a student at this school and i have noticed that most of the teachers just plain dont care about their students well being and they wont come and ask if you need help rarely or hardly at all, one of the teachers there i can literally sit in his math class all period and never open my book or get out paper and he wont say a word to me or anyone else who isnt working, and there are many issues with the bathrooms and the water fountains they are always breaking down and some of the stall doors cant be locked and the teachers and staff seem to pick favorites on everything including students, rules, and punishments to give, i got a lunch detention for helping out a student even though 5 people vouched for me and this has happened to several people. and we have no freedom of speech if we even start to voice an opinion even if it is very logical and well put together we will get atleast a full day of ISS. and there unexcused absent system is WAYY to strict i had to go to the social secruity office with my mom and they didnt count it as excused and they say if you have a fever you have to go home ive left on 3 occasions for tis reason and every time it was unexcused.
I'm a student, and I can honestly say that if I had the chance to transfer schools, I would. This school tries too hard to punish kids for doing small things that shouldn't even be considered bad, such as having the right to free speech. Love is love is a good example. 2 weeks of that and voices were muffled. Teachers wonder why students act up in class and try to control them. The school is too controlling- over everything. And it seems like athletic activities are preferred over anything else, like taking money to build a football field even though, sorry, the team doesn't do well enough to deserve it. Those funds needed to go to the marching band who worked harder than before and made it to semi-finals. Cliches indeed.
Very little teacher and school to parent involement. Little help offered for students who fall behind. High drop rate. Highe suspension/expulsion rate.
In comparing the three county schools, I cannot say that EHS is the best, but it is a good country school. In my opinion, there is too much of an emphasis in agriculture and athletics, and hardly any attention to arts and music. In fact, funds were taken from the music program to fund the fledgling football program. Academically, the school is definitely lacking compared to other Southern Indiana schools. The class selections for students are very limited, and the attention student success is lacking. I will give credit to the English program and its teachers. Alice Nevels and Mike Snow show a lot of love for their job and the well-being of their students. I wish I could say the same for the other educators. I would say that the education system at Eastern High School is average at best, but is certainly substandard in all other areas.
this school is the greatest experience ive had with my children so far. its by far the best in the country.
I am a parent of two upcoming freshmen. One has a learning disability and the school takes every step to see that she get's the quality education she needs. There are political issues in every school, you just need to weigh the good against the bad. I feel it is a good school.
this school wants to punishish it students more than teach them
im currently a student here. and the school is horrible. too many religous teacher. alot of the students there are racists. i really hated there. the dress code is unfair. the preps and jocks that go there basically dont have to follow the rules. they get away with everything.
I am a mom of two girls in the band. Mr. Miller is exemplary in both his initiative and his skills at helping students love music and desire to achieve. I believe he deserves all the credit for taking Eastern HS Band to State! He gives these kids drive, and an expectation to succeed that I don't believe they would have under another band teacher. Thanks, Eastern, for supporting Mr. Miller and our students!
I am a former student of Eastern High school. It was good for such a small town but there is a lot that needs to be improved. There were a lot of small town politics and they cared more about money than the students wellbeing sometimes. There are a lot of problems in the athletic department that will probably never be solved. If you have an issue with one of the coaches and the athletic director favors that coach, don't waste your breath. Your issue will never be solved. Name means a lot at this school. I was involved in a lot of extracurricular activities while going to Eastern and I enjoyed most of them. The only one that I really regret is Cheerleading.
