Profile Completeness

HONOR ROLL

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am a HS student at PCS. I looked some of the reviews and I saw none from an actual student. The best thing at PCS are the students. The student body has some great people in who anyone would want to send their kids too. The biggest flaw is the some of the teachers. Now the post about my 11th grader not being able to do math is incorrect to an extent, but there is some truth to that. Our math teacher is definitly not who I would ever pick to teach me math, but she has a lot of classes to teach and the school doesn't provide enough resources. I am also invovled in PCS athletics. I haven't had any bad experiences that would not want to make me want to go out for the team. The spiritual invovled meant at the school is not a lot. Yes you do have a bible class and chapel on Wednesdays, but I feel I am not being pushed to grow spiritually. If I had a choice between sending my kid to Portage High or PCS I would chose PCS. I belive with good leadership and energized staff PCS could be rated five stars. Thanks

The post that claims an 11th grade girl at PCS "doesn't know basic math but has always gotten good grades" is not exactly accurate. The 11th grade is very small so analyzing this claim is easy. Our HS Math teacher is excellent. Grades are earned and Terra Nova testing verifies students abilities. A good grade is an A or B, not C's and D's.

Horrible school, the post about the 11th grader that doesn't know basic math is very accurate. Their high school math teacher is not a good teacher. The only "fine arts" class this school has is choir, they don't have an actual art class. You should take your child to another private school or public school, Public schools have WAY more educational opportunities than this school will ever be able to provide. Lastly the tuition is extremely overpriced. If i could rate this 0 out of 5 stars I would.

It doesn't meet ACSI standards and is very unprofessional. I recommend any other private or public school.

I would like to see many improvements with this school. It is very expensive, and it is very unorganized and unprofessional.

I have experienced both Portage public schools and Portage Christian. Portage Christian is definitely the place for my children. The teachers love what they do and are an asset to the academic and spiritual growth of these children.

As a teacher and parent at PCS, I've been very impressed with the school from both perspectives. My child has significantly improved in manners, academics, behavior, and happiness since becoming a student. I'm blown away by my child's depth of Bible understanding for one so young. From preschool to kindergarten what sets this school apart is a Christ-centered attitude that affects everything from academics to after school activities. The academics are also excellent, and teachers care, so students get help with their work but are challenged to take responsibility and learn from their actions.

PCS has provided a God-centered space for my child to grow both academically and spiritually. My child thoroughly enjoys going to school each day and that assurance is priceless!

My kids have been at PCS for over 10 years. This is a great school! High academics, caring staff, and God-centered curriculum. It is a wonderful alternative to public school. The Bible is the highest authority at PCS and it shows in every classroom!

This school is falling apart fast, every teacher who made this school enjoyable has either quit or been fired. Five years ago i would have recommended this school to anyone who asked about it. The teachers made the school hand book more important then the bible, i use to really enjoy this school. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE, your kid is better off in a public school or another private school.

This school has taken a complete 360 the past couple of years. The dictatorship of the school, aka the board, cares only about the younger grades and completely neglects the HS & MS. They don't want that to be too apparent though so they through in some crazy discipline every one and a while, they fire a great staff member without providing a reason, they put teachers on academic probation because they don't like them, they threaten to expel a student for doing nothing wrong because "they have the right". This school used to be a God-filled awesome place, but now it's completely gone. It's far from Christ, and the board only wants to pass their agenda. I don't recommend this school at all.

I am very pleased with this shool. I love the teachers, and the curriculum is top notch. I believe it is the best school out there. My children feel accepted here; I believe it is because the teachers create such a warm encouraging enviroment for the kids to excel. I highly, highly recommend to anyone!

I love this school!! I've been to various public schools and tried homeschooling but since enrolling at PCS I've never been happier. The teachers are great and the overall environment is outstanding. This is a top notch school where religeon is strongly encoraged but left open to our own decisions. Teachers are wonderful and this school comes highly reccomended by me, a proud ninth grade student at PCS.

My daughter is currently a student at Portage Christian School. This school is wonderful. Mr. Rumley, the principle, is very dedicated to the school. The teachers are incredibly dedicated to the students and they have a great curriculum. The small class sizes are great too. The schools choir is like no other - thank you Mrs. Davis. I could not have chosen a better school for my daughter.

My son went to this for 5 years. It is wonderful. The balance between academics, and the Christian faith is wonderful. If it were not for our financial situation taking a turn, we would still be there!

My daughter has always done well in public school, so well in fact, she was not really being challenged. Portage, with their small and personal staff have really challenged her in this her first year. I am greatful for that. Plus I am delighted that her courses have a Biblical world view woven through them all.

Portage Christian School did a great job of preparing me for college and for the 'real world'. The teachers are incredibly dedicated to Christian education and really care about their students. I played basketball for the PCS Pacers all 4 years of high school and greatly enjoyed the experience. And wow, what a choir!
