As another former teacher at Galileo Charter School, I found working there caused more problems and stress on my life than any other job that I have previously worked at. The administration had little to no regard to the happiness of the staff and viewed the school as a business instead of a school that truly cared about children. Certain students are favored over others and the students that are favored take advantage of every situation that is given to them. Other students recognized that the restitution model does NOT work and because of this, they do not change their behavior. If I were a parent, I would NEVER send my child to this school. The administration only cares about themselves and they will stab their coworkers in the back to make themselves look good.
Speaking as someone who has taught at Galileo, I feel that this school has lofty goals that simply cannot be met. The relationship between the staff and the administration is strained and while cooperation and collaboration are stressed, the atmosphere is one of distrust and aggravation. This creates a very negative atmosphere throughout both of Galileo's school buildings as well as negatively impacting the teaching that is done on a daily basis. The school's restitution model does not provide children with consequences for misbehavior and does little to create a change in this behavior or prepare them for the real world consequences their actions may have. From year to year, the role of the teacher and the model of the classrooms changes, making consistency a huge issue for students (especially those in the younger grades). Barring major changes to this institution, I do not recommend Galileo Charter School to parents.
Galileo provides my student with indivualized instruction that meets my childs needs. Small class sizes and great parent communication!
This school is great academically. However they seem to focus a little too much on the kids uniforms and lunches
