I think we have some wonderful teachers but there are a few that need new professions. The principals quality of handling bullying/disciplinary rule enforcement stinks. His overall duties are well maintained. Parent involvement is extremely exercised at this school. Would I recommend this school to an average child/ parent yes, but if you have a child with special need or disability/handicaps then I strongly urge you not to choose this school.
This school needs some major work! The principal has no follow through and there are serious staff discipline issues. A special education teacher put a child in a closet and an art teacher has temper tantrums and threw sharpened pencils at children. This is not a data driven school and teachers and administration cannot explain test results or even why the tests are given. Think charter school.
I am currently a student at NPMS, and I think it is a great school! I've seen no favoritism this year, and teachers like to get involved with students. I believe the 6th grade English teacher is the most amazing teacher ever!
I am currently a student at North Putnam Middle School, and I love it. It is not perfect, but what school is? Because it's a small school, students all get the help for school they need from teachers and staff members. There is a bit of favoritism, so watch out for that. Overall, I recommend this school to all people that want a small school.
The middle school has favortism but i do know certain in the cafeteria. Some children get extra's and certain foods held back for them and can eat in the kitchen while the others are told they are out of that food. Its ashame that the children see that the difference is being made.
I have to say my review of NPMS is mixed. We moved into the district from out of state several years ago. I don't have any complaints regarding paying for watching the sports events as that is common practice where we moved from. I have had mixed experience with the staff. I heard terrible things about Mr. England before my child moved to the middle school, but he has been extremely helpful in some difficult situations. However, I have heard large amounts of praise for the teachers, but have had difficulties with communication with some of them. Communication of problems before they become large is my biggest gripe. Why wait until a child is in too deep to dig out before you offer a shovel?
I am a parent of a 'city-transfer' student and I am also dissatisfied by the system at the middle school. I feel that the teachers favor students whose parents always volunteer but do not appreciate the fact that some parents work full time. There is only one teacher for each subject so if you are unhappy with their teaching style there are no alternatives. My child was getting A s & B s before we transferred to this school and is now struggling to get C s & D s. The e-mail system of homework assignments would be a great concept, if it were consistent. Some teachers send several e-mails a week changing the homework schedule and some do not send any. Paying private school tuition is looking more appealing.
I as a current middle student, actually do agree with alot of these comments. 1. the dress code should be handled differently. Needs to make the dress code a little easiar. 2. The teachers and staff do point fingers. 3. I think it's ridiculous that you have to have a physical to play sports. I went to Decatur Intermediate Learning Center known as the D.I.L.C last year. They let us wear any typer shirts as long it was 4 finger sleeve. We were aloud to wear shorts any size, and this school don't alow anything! I do not recomend anybody enroll in this school. I am a city-girl and if you are not born and raised in the country you will not exactly fit in. (outsider) You will get alot of stuff from parents, and former/ current students, and maybe even staff members.
Mr. Tippin was a wonderful addition to the school. I think he has the right things in mind and is trying to make things better. If you go to sporting events at any school around here, they all charge to get it. I know it's that way with volleyball, football & basketball gasmes. Teachers do tend to point fingers to avoid confrontation in which I do not agree with. I think who you are and what kind of kid you makes a huge difference in the way you are treated. That is not right, all should be treated the same. There is not one school where every person is completely happy. You're going to have the non-athletic kids and parents who hate all who are invlolved in athletics. It's like that at every school. Al in al it's a pretty good school.
I have never seen such a horrible school system. This school system doesn't put a lot of logic into any of their decisions. When something goes wrong the staff spend more time finger pointing than addressing the issues at hand. If I knew then, what I know now, I would never have moved into a house in this school district. If you are not born and raised out there you are an outsider and many parents will tell you that. I think this school needs a major overhaul, from the top down.
