As the parent of a former student (spent 1 yr), I am thankful he is no longer there. The staff is friendly, but the level of education is well below par. The test scores prove it. A's seem to be handed out freely. My son was even given back work to improve his grade! At an honor roll ceremony, the principle told the kids the goal was to improve state test scores by 3 pts, so a larger majority of them would be passing the test. If you are on the honor roll you should be scoring in the 90's, not just passing!

Wow What a wonderful School!! My child went to a nearby school for the first 5 years of her education, She was near failing for the last year. She now attends Jackson, never misses a day, and is in the band and plays soccer, oh yeah and on Honor roll, Why is SBCSC so much better for her?? She is a Student, a friend and a cared for child in this system, not a number on the books or a face in the crowd, she is special there and we all love this school!! Keep up the hard work Jackson Teachers and Staff! You all are wonderful!!

I think the school has a good start to being one of the best school. My children love the school. We come from Ft. Worth Texas and it has been nice.

Strong administrative policies, the uniform dress code and a great teaching staff - put them all together and you've got Jackson! My child is in the Explorers program and his growth has been wonderful! He passed both parts of the ISTEP! Success at last!

My child is going to Jackson this year for 5th grade. Jackson is much more structured and the teachers and administration are so much more helpful than any school I have been to by far. Thank you Jackson for caring for our kids. I do love the school uniforms also.

I went to Jackson Middle School for one year in seventh grade (2002-2003). But with the daily problems teachers must face I believe they are doing a great job. When I attended Jackson I was in all the honors classes available. I did not have any problems taking the state tests given to us at the end of the year. Obviously most teachers are teaching the needed curriculum. Even I admit there are some not-so-great teachers at Jackson. I blame it on lack of organization or inspiration. But with the things teachers have to deal with (and they MOST certainly should not have to), such as cursing, fighting, and just overall insubordinance it is hard to totally focus your attention on kids who are actually attempting to learn.

I'm currently taking my child out of this school due to the lack of any cooperation from the faculty involving my childs safty. She has been harrassed and threatend since she started here, and their response is 'We are not dealing with these problem and if your child comes to the office for help again she will be fined $102.50 and/or suspended' unbelievable!

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
