While I do agree that we all miss Mrs. Levee, it is what it is and it was her time to move on to bigger and better things for herself. The current new Principle, Mrs. Lewis has at least one flaw yes, she does need to interact more with parents, put a smile on her face instead of a grimace. I'm not sure that she looks at the attendees of the school, both parents as well as children as "lower class" though I feel there definitely is something there. The only way to accomplish a fix with this is for parents to band together and request a meeting with the principle to share those feelings. Other than that, the teachers at Muessel are fabulous, the school is clean and nice. My daughter will be finishing out her 4th grade school year there in Fall of 2010. She's attended since Kindergarten.

I agree that the Principal of this school is absolutely ridiculous. I have never know a principal to be so hostile! It's RIDICULOUS! The teachers that we've dealt with are fabulous, but the principal is an absolute nightmare!

The principal of this school is ridiculous. She looks at everyone like they are low class citizens, despite there being a handful of parents who really care and are really involved in their child's education. I think this school was better off with Mrs. Levee in charge, because the new principal has not a clue!

My daughter is currently finishing up her Kindegarden year at Muessel and it has been a wonderful year. Her teacher is wonderful and there are several parents involved with her class, including myself. Muessel is academically a wonderful school and the principal strives to do better and improve everything in the school. The children, from what I have seen, are mostly curteous and polite with the exception of a small handful. I am extremely proud of what my daughter has accomplished this year and happily impressed with the faculty. My only concern is with the neighborhood that Muessel resides in as it is not the safest area for children to be.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
