At MCS, we pride ourselves on really getting to know each of our students. We want them to have confidence knowing who they are in Christ so they realize that that they can accomplish anything. We have students who excel and are working grades ahead and we have students who struggle. We are determined to help each child know they have gifts to offer and are valuable to this world! We want them to become leaders who stand up for others and for what is right.

Michiana Christian School (Sonrise Preschool) is such a great learning environment for all students. It rangers from preschool and K-6th grade. I have had friends and family both attend these school or have had children enrolled as students and have heard many great things about it. The teachers are very friendly and are involved in the students' lives inside and outside the school. They show concern on behalf of the students and take their education very seriously. I would highly recommend this school as a great place for young students to not only be educated in the general studies but as well as Christian principles and how to live our lives daily according to God's word. I would trust them with my future children to teach them as much about math, spelling, english, and reading as much as teaching them the word of God.

MCS is an AMAZING school!! My daughter loves the principal, her teachers, and her friends. I love that she gets so much attention because of the small class sizes. I would HIGHLY recommend this school to everyone!!! WONDERFUL school for learning and growing! My daughter was able to read within 3 months of attending kindergarten...talk about EXCITING!!!!

We have sent our little girl to three local schools, all with different strengths and weaknesses. First, we sent her to kindergarten at Kennedy Magnet school for highly able children. Kennedy had "lunch" at 9:40! and only one, too-brief, recess. She lost 5 Lbs in Kindergarten, and her health suffered. Next year, we sent her to Good Shepherd Montessori, where her health improved, BUT--. The teaching was uneven, and academic achievement was below par for a bright and able child. At Michiana Christian School, there is a reasonable & appropriate schedule for keeping children healthy: adequate time for active play, and regular snacks and lunch. At the same time, I can say from close observation and experience that the academic achievement of the children at MCS surpasses that of the children at Kennedy magnet school -- OR Good Shepherd. Even though Kennedy only admits children who test "highly able" intellectually, MSC , without any such test, has higher achieving children. Class sizes are half what they are at Kennedy or Good Shepherd, and tuition is less than half Good Shepherd's tuition. Karen Hammond-Nash, a parent

Be careful here... Most of the positive reviews are written by the principal. This school used to be the premiere school in the area but has really slipped in the past couple of years. the students are second to everything else. Money is the first thing on their mind.

Michiana Christian School is an awesome place for children to grow in their faith. The teaching staff and the principal share Christ's love in a very real way with students and families. Students are given countless opportunities to grow academically and are encouraged to be life long learners. This school is amazingly affordable for the priceless service they provide.

Wow...this school is all about the kids. I haven't seen a principal work so hard to know each and every child...they love her! And the staff is loving and trained to deal with all level of kids. So glad we have kept our kids in such a nurturing and academically challenging environment where God is the center!

My husband and I love MCS. We love the small class rooms and the children treat each other like brothers and sisters. The teachers are truely dedicated to the education the children get. But the most important subject taught is about Jesus and having Him in their lives!! The principal and the teachers are the best!!

My husband and I are so happy with love and attention are children receive from the teachers at MCS. The classes are small so the personal attention has been such a bonus for our girls and we love the challenging curriculum . We are excited to be part of a school with such strong leadership in place. We are also excited to be part of the growth we are experiencing at MCS. When I asked my girls what they loved about their school their answer was their teachers and principal.

I am so happy with this school. My daughter started attending in preschool and now is in 1st grade. The teachers are so caring, the classes are small and she is learning great values along with learning how to read, write and add/subtract. Would highly recommend the school.

My daughter attended this school from 1st thru 6th grade. We just loved Michiana Christian and were so sad to have to leave when she graduated from there. We truly felt like part of a family and would highly recommend the school.

This year the board and faculty of Michiana Christian School have implemented soccer, basketball, and baseball for grades 2 - 6. They do listen to parents concerns regarding extra cirricular activities and a desire for sports. Even so, academia will remain the focus. Sharon Serwatka

One word will sum this school up nicely. Amazing. I am so pleased with the love, the sense of community, and the level of teaching at this small school. It is a very accelerated program, but given in such a way it is easily absorbed by the child. I feel blessed our child is able to attend.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

Average
Above
average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). Unfortunately, this school doesn't have sufficient data to generate an academic rating.

Climate rating for this school is not yet available.
