My daughter attended NWMS her 8th grade year. Being new comers, We noticed immediately that the children here who have a family history in this area are extremely favored by the teachers, regardless of there GPA. None of the teachers took interest in my daughter or her extremely impressive educational profile. We were very disappointed that the school does not offer honors classes other than mathematics. Nor do they offer membership for the National Junior Honor Society or other clubs that promote community involvement such as the Jr Lions Club. My child was never offered the opportunity to go on the 8th grade end of year trip to New York because we were not here to sign up for it during 7th grade...I've never heard of such a thing. We love the small community feel in Wakarusa and were hoping to feel more welcome here. My daughter did not feel challenged academically compared to her previous education in another state. Most ivy league colleges review educational profiles from 6th grade thru 12th. It is impossible for a child to qualify if the school doesn't offer the opportunities for the ambitious students.

The coaches are awesome, they make everything make sense. They also have a winning record. if you are moving in to the area I definatly recomend that you visit MorthWood Middle School. Go Panthers!!

Northwood Middle is a great school. There is one thing I do not agree with. When the eighth graders graduate they go to the high school where the students there havethe freedom to express themselves but the younger Students can not express themselves in unique ways. We are told that it attracts too much attention to your self. If you think about that is exactly what we want to happen. I am not distracted when more fourtunate children where clothes just to be a distraction or a 'class clown'. The principals make people who where these things either take them off or get i.s.s. I do agre with other dress codes because ther are logical. My main argument is that if the high and elementary schools can why are we not allowed to?
