There is no leadership in this school, the principle is more concerned about the public view of west Vigo than the education of the students, all problems that parents should be notified about the school does everything it can to keep things quiet, Mr. Story a track coach has been observed by parents inappropriately putting his hands on female students and also have herd complaints from the boys, the principal was notified as well ad the school corp by concerned parents for 3 years and still this man works there. A 6 grade girl was fondled by an 8th grader on the bus but the school denies it, the school is a bad environment for children rules are enforced on students and parents but the school staff does not follow the rules, and if you are a concerned parent making a complaint your name will be spread to all staff members and trouble will be caused for you and your attending student, this has been going on for years, a teacher kissed a 10th grade girl when I went to school there 15 years ago and the school knew and thus person still works there but its much worse now, the current principal tom balitavitch is a politician not a principle

My child previously went to this school, and it is definitely not a school I would feel safe sending my child too again. And I certainly would not recommend this school to anyone moving to the area.

Excellent school. My kids go there on permit because we want them to get a better education. If you are planning a move to the area, consider West Terre Haute, if for no other reason this terrific school.

This is a wonderful school, small enough the principal and teachers know all the kids but large enough to offer sports (our football team is the best), drama, dance, Big Brothers Big Sister club and various other after school activities. Our school even offers drivers ED classes to prepare students for their license.I have three daughters who go to the school and I specifically moved to this area for the school. The JR high is connected to the HS. The elementary and middle schools are down the road. The middle school is newly built. Most of the students are from middle to lower class homes. Absoultely NO gangs. The principal is strict on bulling and attendance. If you have any questions be sure to email the school.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Indiana used the End-of-Course (ECA) assessment to test students in middle and high school in Algebra I, Biology I, and English 10. The ECA is a criterion-referenced assessment developed specifically for students completing their instruction in Algebra I, Biology I, or English 10. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

About the tests

Indiana uses the A through F School Grading System to assess the overall performance of a school. For the 2011-2012 school year, schools were graded based on performance and participation levels in state standardized tests and student growth using the Indiana Growth Model. In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
