My much younger brother attended SSES and our family loved it. They were very friendly and helpful, and the staff really try to get to know the families. So much so, that when I arrived to have lunch with him, before i could give my first name, the secretary said, 'You must be his oldest sister, he said you might come by today' Great school with lots of fun stuff for families who want to play an active role in their child's early years.

What a wonderful school! We have had a child at SSES for 2 years. We have had exceptional teachers in both the kindergarten and 1st grades with superior academic excellence. The principal is 1st rate as well. Overall the school gets a 5 star rating from our family as well as many others in our community. This school has a very involved group of parents in the PTO who work closely with the principal and teachers. We will be sad to leave this school due to a job transfer. I doubt we will find a school as unique and genuine as the one we have been blessed with for 2 years. Extracurricular activities in this school are booming! Many, many choices in Westfield within the school and community. Shamrock Springs Elementary School is great and we would highly recommend it to anyone coming to our area!

My daughter is new to SSES this year. The staff has been tremendously helpful. Her teacher was willing to meet with me. The assistant principal also met with me to make sure my daughter was adjusting well to public school. I feel my daughter is getting a top notch education. She is receiving one-on-one reading instruction everyday. She gets to go to art, PE, music or the library every week. The PTO is very active and has a ton of after school enrichment programs like science, piano, and Spanish. I am impressed with this school's commitment to helping students achieve their personal best.

This school house first thru fourth graders and is definitely a positive influence in your child's life. I have had 3 children at this school and it has been a great experience. They are on the up and up with technology and teaching the kids. The teaching staff are young and energetic.

I am incredibly happy with the teachers, curriculum, activities, and administration at SSES - so much so that remaining in the district is an absolute must in our current house hunting efforts. Our son attended K-4 there, our daughter is in third, and our youngest is in Kindergarten - we want very much for them to continue there given how much they enjoy it and how happy we are at their achievements and enjoyment there.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
