I use to go to that school and it was the worst experience ever. At that school no one knows how to welcome a new student. I felt judge and no one would bother to pick me as a partner for class. If you are new and going to go to this school don't expect to make a lot of friends. Students were stuck up. Teachers should really teach the students how to welcome someone new. Teachers also give out way to much homework and test.

All this talk about intolerance is plain stupid. I am a 3 year student so far and I see no problems with the school. Its just the fact that we never had a great principle until now. With the Harding transition and all its not terrible. Some people just need to learn respect of others. The only thing tolerated is an act against the original Woodlan student. It seems to me that the Harding transfers get a lot more privileges than the rest of us. And people are saying all this stuff about because its a small town, but only about half of the students actually live in Woodburn. And only about 12 of the teachers are even from the Woodburn area.

For all the years that I have gone to Woodlan, I have been one of these 'different' students you speak of, and I feel that my class has done much more than accept me. There are a few groups of people that are not as easily accepted as others, though. These include: extremely obese people, students that act as if they are smarter than others, and people the students find mean or annoying. Woodlan isn't perfect, and no doubt it has a few weaknesses, but in comparison to other schools, I think that Woodlan is definitely near if not at the top. I would say that Woodlan is a rating of about 4.6 out of 5.

I feel that Woodlan should evaluate things that go on and involve the student body and opinions more. I think that the principal now should listen to the students more and not make any major changes without this. I feel that the safety of the students are also a major factor at this school, I feel that it is an issue that needs more attention. My children no longer attend public schools.

This school is not as bad as you all are making it out to be. I've gone here for three years now and I see no problem with the tolerance issue. If your kid is doing something anyone thinks should not be tolerated, you as a parent have the responsibility to get a handle on that instead of complaining to the school administration. Yes, it is true that different types of people are not always accepted immediately in such a small town. I always thought that was a shame. But give Woodlan a break, most of the student body has no idea what the 'real world' is like because we live in such a small community. I think that Woodlan HAD some leadership issues in the past, but this year we have a new principal who I think will be an excellent leader.

As a graduate of Woodlan Jr./Sr. High School, I felt that I had a great education. The staff was very supportive of me and allowed me to grow as a person. The education and activities offered by Woodlan and EACS are second to none. Because of the support and education, I was able to attend college and have since completed a Masters degree, and I am working on my second. This is a great school and a great community to raise your children.

Horrible school for any child who is not cut from a particular mold.

A dangerous place to send a child that might be perceived to be 'different' as the school does not encourage protection of those children.

This school should be ashamed of itself. The leadership is terrible!

Posted April 27, 2007

Perhaps you should add some classes about tolerance to the curriculum. To date you seemed to have missed the boat.

This is a terrible school, who's main focus is ignoring the personal growth of all of its students. Personal life-styles, choices, and beliefs are not welcomed at Woodlan Jr/Sr. High School.

All educators should focus on acceptance of student differences, not in small town ideologies of pseudo-protectionism.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
