If you do NOT have a great IEP in place that outlines every aspect your child needs in special education-you are out of luck at this school. You must be the best advocate for your child. I have a tailored IEP for my child in special education. Last year individuals removed and reworded at least eleven accommodations without my knowledge or consent on his IEP. I requested it to be modified after it was illegally modified. This year, my child's teachers are working very hard to help him succeed. This year's recent IEP meeting went well except at the end of the meeting I was told by the education consultant that I "should think about scaling down-gradually removing my child's special education accommodations in high school because neither community colleges nor four year colleges would accept them." I was handed a four page summary from our local community college outlining the differences in the K-12 program compared to its "higher education " program. My child has FIVE years left in this public school system. Getting him through school is my main concern. He has specific learning disabilities and I am not about to "scale them down" while he is in the public school system. Advocacy.
School administrators are horrible, rude and they are not working for the kids. The principal "Pam" is certainly incompetent when it comes to bullying issues. They want to avoid issues at all costs and they do not support the victims at all because they just do not want to do the paperwork and or work in general in dealing with the bullies themselves and their parents. A shame since Ames is such a great community and use to be a great place to get an education for our children. Maybe it will improve with another principal and better bullying initiative. Praying this will not be another Columbine. Sorry, but these people just do not care about their jobs nor the kids.
Ames middle school. Everyone is horrible. The kids have no manners and are never disciplined. Majority of the teachers including the principal and they women in student services are fake. They are rude to your face and are very happy and more then willing to embarrass someone. They are rude and should be fired. take your kid somewhere else unless you want them to be bullied and have the immature adults not do anything about it. If you want a good education for you kid this is a good place but their lives will be miserable and there spirits may be crushed.
The Ames Middle School is certainly top-notch. In general, the academics are above-average. Granted, the student's don't, by and large, help the atmosphere, but it is not a major issue. A sufficiently large amount of after-school activities and programs exist to make it easy to find a niche. i'd reccommend it
AMS is a great school. They actually care that the students learn. They make it interesting so the kids like it. The acedemics are second to none. There are a variety of after school programs that kids can get involved in. The parents seem to to be in the know. The most teachers answer emails fairly quick. You should no fears of what your child can learn and or become socially involved in the right enviroment.
I love ames middle school It is really friendly and fun. and I learn alot
I go to AMS. At AMS there are so many extra cirricular programs. There is an ELP for kids who need to have a challenge. There are 4 extracurricular classes for kids interested in art. AMS has so many sports. In the fall there's volleyball, football, cross country and soccer. In the winter there's girls basketball, boys basketball, wrestling, and gymnastics. In the spring there's track. For other activites that aren't as active you can choose from mock trial, DI, band, chrous, orchestra, jazz band, SATB select choir, Science Olympiad, Lego League, talent show, and so much more. Parents have their own booster club to help raise money. It helps AMS to do some fun programs.
