My children have had a great experience at this school. Their teachers have been exceptional. Thanks to the hard work of the teachers and support staff, my children are exceeding the state standards. Not only are they pushing my children academically, but the school has an amazingly diverse student population, both ethnically and socio-economically. This provides an education for my children that prepares them for living in an increasingly diverse world. I love the school and I would recommend it to others!
The faculty and staff at Washington try VERY hard. I volunteer there twice a week helping first graders with their reading. The big problem the school has is that many of the students come from unstable homes, resulting in a lot of absences and mid-year transfers. Also, the PTA, while dedicated, is composed of less than 10 core families. For the students that do attend regularly, there is a wealth of supporting infrastructure: a full-time counselor, a family support specialist, grants that give free books to students twice a year, three girl scout troops and a boy scout troop, intramural sports team. The computer lab has FastForWord and FastMath, and kids attend regularly. The school is small enough that all the staff know the kids names and sometimes even a bit about their family situation.
