While a student can get a good education within the Ottumwa school system, the system itself is not a very good one. The opportunities are there, especially when coordinated with classes at the local community college. However, access to the information as to how one obtains opportunities within the school is limited to those parents who make a real time commitment to asking the right questions of the right people. Using Ottumwa High School to educate one's child is not a user-friendly experience. Transparency is lacking.

My children have numerous options for academics. The drama and band programs are amazing. My opinion and my involvement are always important. The teachers, counselors, and principal care

OHS is known for their higher standards of education. Music, art, and humanities as well as sports are just a part of the OHS experience. I am the mother of 2 students, Alfred from Forshaga Sweden, and Kristof from Budapest Hungary. They were two of the players on Ottumwa's first soccer team. They felt that their experiences in America educationally were equal to or even surpassed those of European educational facilities. OHS provided my two boys with a high quality experience of not only our culture, but provided them the opportunity and confidence to seek University placements after returning to their native countries. OHS,The Bulldogs,American friends, and a superb education will always be with my special sons, Alfred and Kristof!! It was great to know that my sons could have the same quality of school life that my entire family and many friends have experienced. Thank you OHS, Ruth 1969
