Our son has attended Seton since he was 4. We put him in the preschool program and I will say it was amazing. Now he is almost done attending Seton and every year he has tested out of his grade in all subjects. This is not unique, as most parents tell us the same thing. The staff here is fantastic and really care about our sons education. The children are taught to care for one another and respect others. I would highly recommend this school. One other thing. You don't have to be catholicfor your children to attend.
Our son recently transferred to Seton from a public school, and in a very short time we've already seen improvements being made. When he was younger, he was able to get special help with his reading and fine motor skills at the public school he was in. Now he's reading very well, but his math and writing skills needed improving. We had forgotten how amazing Seton was (from when our older child attended). He brings home papers from what they have been working on that day. He's studing things that my eighth grader is currently reviewing. They teach science, social studies, math, reading, and writing, (as well as music, art, and P.E.). To parents who are considering Seton for their child, I would say, "Run, don't walk!" Take a look at their test scores. Their scores are far and above anything else in town, and probably some of the highest in the state. The teachers are very kind and can work more closely with your child because of the smaller class sizes. They will have more projects and tests because this is part of their learning so much in a short time. It also helps develope excellent study skills for later in life. It's one of the best investments we've ever made!
I transfered my daughter after 1 1/2 years at the "best" public elementary. It has been wonderful. The teachers are excellent and the coursework adjusted to the student even when the student is excelling!
We recently moved to Ottumwa from the Quad Cities/Pleasant Valley School District. We love Seton! Our daughter has really grown academically as well as socially. Kids at Seton not only learn to be good students, but also good people. We were a little worried at first about the small class sizes and making friends, but the great thing about Seton is that the kids all play together, no matter what grade they're in. It's kind of like a big family. If you would like to be active in the school, the Home and School (PTA) is very friendly and offers many opportunites to participate. The principal and staff are very professional, and they really care about the kids. Be sure to check out the ITBS scores for this school- very impressive. If you are moving to Ottumwa, you owe it to yourself- and your kids- to check out Seton.
This is a great school where one on one attention can be provided to those students who excel or need extra help. The teachers are top notch and very caring about every aspect of your child's developement. Manner and respect for others are encouraged and taught here. Every child is reminded to say 'please' and 'thank-you'. Keep up the great work seton!!
