We have been a Des Moines Christian School family for 6 years, and have every intention of both of our children graduating from DMC. Each of our children has a very different personality and learning style, yet both have had success and enjoy learning. Our oldest child is in the Talented & Gifted program at DMC, and we have been very pleased with how Mrs Thiner has encouraged & challenged these students, as well as all teachers appropriately challenging both of our children academically. But from a fellowship perspective, that is where, as a parent, I feel Des Moines Christian really excels. The kind of support and encouragement our family has received from not only the teachers and staff, but also fellow DMC families has had such a positive impact on our own family.

We, as a family, are very strong proponents of Christian education and have had an exceptionally good experience at DMC for many years. Our kids are in an environment where the teachers share a love for Jesus. The teachers and administration help the students grow to be spiritually and academically strong young men and women. They pray with them. They counsel them in righteousness and they care about the direction of their lives. Chapel service is offered once a week with guest speakers. In addition to the spiritual strength of the school, the kids have received a top-notch education, as seen in part by their standardized testing scores. DMC consistantly ranks in top percentiles for students' scoring on ITBS and ACT scores. My only negative: I would caution the school to be careful with debt and to pay off current obligations before looking to expansion.

I student taught at Des Moines Christian. I really enjoyed the environment. The teachers were so welcoming. I would be delighted to go back and teach at Des Moines Christian. I love being able to go into each classroom and see each teacher talk freely about God. Mrs. Lowe is doing an awesome job and am very encouraged by her spirit! She is always positive and willing to listen to your students.

This school is definitely a private school and definitely not a Christian school. It will look good from the outside but take it from a family on the inside, it is full of falsehoods and people whose last concern is upholding Christian principles.

Des Moines Christian has a great future in store. It has definitely struggled over the last few years after losing some excellent teachers, and the students felt it. The administration has switched hands, and with some new hires in upper levels I am hopeful DMC is going to excel again. Teachers have always cared about promoting the success and character of their students. Bible courses are strong, as are the arts and athletics. DMC is a great place to build community and get a great education; am excited to see what is in store for it.

Pretty good school, some of the teachers are not the best, but that's from your point of view. The education is good, and it helps you be around good christian people.

My daughter graduated from DMCS and was fully prepared for a 4 year college. My son has attended DMCS since kindergarten and we have found a loving, nuturing and well prepared teaching staff. He has made quality friendships throughout his 12 years at DMCS. He is ready for college. Great teachers, great administration, growth environment.

The school is good for elementary age, but very inadequate for high school. They have one high school counselor that is very disorganized and do not offer many classes. I truly regret sending my daughter there. She is now struggling in college and was not prepared for the rigors of college. Truly a disappointment.

As an alumnus of this school I can now look back and see how this school did me a great disservice. I am now in college and really struggling to keep up with my peers who come from public schools throughout Iowa and the nation. The curriculum throughout high school is poor, particularly in science. Science taught from a Christian perspective is great, but did absolutely nothing to prepare me for college biology where I am expected to already know basic evolution theory. It may be great through elementary, but I would never send my child to this high school. I will be sending my child to public school, where they will have many more opportunities in education.

This school is the best school I have ever sent my children to. They have wonderful teachers, wonderful curriculum, the coaches are the best you could ask for, the music department is amazing! The list goes on, this school is all around the best thing you could do for your children.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
