Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Des Moines Christian is a biblically based Christian School with small class sizes and a very family inclusive approach. The teachers really care about the students and families. The academic expectations exceed those of the public school we also attended. Having the bible as a teaching tool in everything they do promotes good behavior and best efforts from students.

I have been involved with this school for 14 years and can't say enough good things about it!!! The education is top-notch and many other kids who transfer from other schools are behind academically. I love the Biblical teaching that my children get day in and out & I love that they get to pray with their classmates & teachers. The teachers truly care about their students. No common core issues is a definitely plus! I love that it's K-12 all in one building. I am in tears every year at their CHRISTmas program because I'm so blessed that our kids get to sing CHRISTmas songs about the real meaning of CHRISTmas! I wish I could have had this close-knit amazing school when I was their age!

We could not be more happy at Des Moines Christian! Our junior and sixth grader are challenged and growing academically by the type of instruction they receive at DMC with great curriculum and creative teaching methods. They are growing in their spiritual walk daily as instruction is given from a Biblical Worldview. Our children have been able to develop like-minded friendships with their peers where they feel comfortable praying and building each other up in their faith. We also have had great experiences in athletics and show choir. You can tell that the teachers and staff care and love our children. DMC feels like home! We would highly recommend DMC!

Des Moines Christian is an amazing school that not only had great academics but also provided my children a wonderful spiritual foundation that has stuck with them! After we moved to a new district, I felt that they were very prepared, in fact, were more advanced than their peers. The teachers are so caring and supportive and they have a wonderful leadership team. The school has diligently been adding technology and provides great opportunities for many extra curricular activities. My children were loved and safe each day and their teachers went above and beyond to be sure that my children's education was top notch.

We love the challenging academics! My 3 children have all been at DMCS since kindergarten. This is our 5th year. The academics are much more demanding than the public schools, who must adhere to the common core's "race to the middle." Reading is 100% phonics, math is back-to-basics real math (not Everyday Math), and there is weekly memory work. I hear from friends who have switched from area public schools that they are 6 months behind DMCS' teaching. Plus, DMCS still teaches handwriting, cursive (starting 2nd grade) and has weekly spelling tests, which a lot of area public schools do not. My 3 children have thrived at DMCS, developing their intellect, faith and character. The teachers employ proven teaching methods, and most important, they truly care about each individual child reaching his or her full potential. 4th grade starts the Talented and Gifted program that kids can test into. It is has been so fun and challenging for my 4th grader. I really cannot say enough great things about Des Moines Christian.

We transferred from the Waukee School District last year so our kids are just starting their second year at DMCS. What a great move this was for our family!! We love the small school atmosphere, the Christian based education, the activities that include the entire family, which makes it so easy to get to know other parents/families, and how our children are held accountable. Finally there are consequences to homework not being completed or turned in someone actually cares that they do it!! Although our kids will admit that DMCS is a lot more challenging academically, they will also say that they are learning so much more! They are THRIVING and are so happy--we feel blessed to be a part DMCS!!

DMCS is a wonderful school! I especially appreciate the teachers and staff who hold a Biblical world view. The teachers truly care about my children, desire for them to succeed academically, and are concerned for their spiritual well-being, development, and growth. The academic standards are high and behavioral expectations mirror Biblical values. No school can be all things to all people -- no school is perfect. However, I believe that DMCS does it's very best to provide a well-rounded education, teach the gospel and love the children entrusted to them.

Our family has been part of DMCS for 7 years. We have never thought about leaving this school for another. As a parent, I am growing along side my daughter with her Biblical education. DMCS is an amazing school from the leadership, Christ based education and sports. We could not be happier!

Des Moines Christian School offers great Biblical teaching and many excellent opportunities for students. Academically, it lacks the ability to really challenge the brightest students at any level. The talented-and-gifted program is weak, and AP courses are lacking both in sheer number and in quality of teaching. The curriculum is definitely geared toward the average student with no differentiation in the classes. I would characterize the majority of my kids' teachers as "good," but not "great." I do appreciate the tremendous Biblical knowledge they have gained attending DMCS, but would love to see them take as much interest in academics and music as they do in athletics.

We have been a Des Moines Christian School family for 6 years, and have every intention of both of our children graduating from DMC. Each of our children has a very different personality and learning style, yet both have had success and enjoy learning. Our oldest child is in the Talented & Gifted program at DMC, and we have been very pleased with how Mrs Thiner has encouraged & challenged these students, as well as all teachers appropriately challenging both of our children academically. But from a fellowship perspective, that is where, as a parent, I feel Des Moines Christian really excels. The kind of support and encouragement our family has received from not only the teachers and staff, but also fellow DMC families has had such a positive impact on our own family.

We, as a family, are very strong proponents of Christian education and have had an exceptionally good experience at DMC for many years. Our kids are in an environment where the teachers share a love for Jesus. The teachers and administration help the students grow to be spiritually and academically strong young men and women. They pray with them. They counsel them in righteousness and they care about the direction of their lives. Chapel service is offered once a week with guest speakers. In addition to the spiritual strength of the school, the kids have received a top-notch education, as seen in part by their standardized testing scores. DMC consistantly ranks in top percentiles for students' scoring on ITBS and ACT scores. My only negative: I would caution the school to be careful with debt and to pay off current obligations before looking to expansion.

I student taught at Des Moines Christian. I really enjoyed the environment. The teachers were so welcoming. I would be delighted to go back and teach at Des Moines Christian. I love being able to go into each classroom and see each teacher talk freely about God. Mrs. Lowe is doing an awesome job and am very encouraged by her spirit! She is always positive and willing to listen to your students.

This school is definitely a private school and definitely not a Christian school. It will look good from the outside but take it from a family on the inside, it is full of falsehoods and people whose last concern is upholding Christian principles.

Des Moines Christian has a great future in store. It has definitely struggled over the last few years after losing some excellent teachers, and the students felt it. The administration has switched hands, and with some new hires in upper levels I am hopeful DMC is going to excel again. Teachers have always cared about promoting the success and character of their students. Bible courses are strong, as are the arts and athletics. DMC is a great place to build community and get a great education; am excited to see what is in store for it.

Pretty good school, some of the teachers are not the best, but that's from your point of view. The education is good, and it helps you be around good christian people.

My daughter graduated from DMCS and was fully prepared for a 4 year college. My son has attended DMCS since kindergarten and we have found a loving, nuturing and well prepared teaching staff. He has made quality friendships throughout his 12 years at DMCS. He is ready for college. Great teachers, great administration, growth environment.

The school is good for elementary age, but very inadequate for high school. They have one high school counselor that is very disorganized and do not offer many classes. I truly regret sending my daughter there. She is now struggling in college and was not prepared for the rigors of college. Truly a disappointment.

As an alumnus of this school I can now look back and see how this school did me a great disservice. I am now in college and really struggling to keep up with my peers who come from public schools throughout Iowa and the nation. The curriculum throughout high school is poor, particularly in science. Science taught from a Christian perspective is great, but did absolutely nothing to prepare me for college biology where I am expected to already know basic evolution theory. It may be great through elementary, but I would never send my child to this high school. I will be sending my child to public school, where they will have many more opportunities in education.

This school is the best school I have ever sent my children to. They have wonderful teachers, wonderful curriculum, the coaches are the best you could ask for, the music department is amazing! The list goes on, this school is all around the best thing you could do for your children.
