Waukee Senior High School

I am currently a junior at Waukee High School. I believe that there is a huge emphasis on both academic excellence and athletic excellence. There are opportunities for everyone, whether that be in sports, clubs, or other activities. The school is very inclusive of all and very accepting of others. The teachers are willing to work with students, even those with very busy schedules. Most athletes are multi-sport athletes but are still able to keep extremely high GPA's throughout the year. Waukee will continue to grow and rise to the challenge that that growth will bring. Waukee is also one of the best schools in the state both academically and athletically as well.

WHS is the best school! The teachers care about the students academic growth and acheivements. Waukee School district hires very educated teachers and it shows in the student's test scores and graduation rate.

Too much emphasis on sports, not enough on academics. Not many sports opportunities for kids that aren't starting lineup caliber. Academics are OK, but not as solid as the school district would like people to believe. More emphasis is needed in math and science. Some of the language courses are weak and the instructors are uninspiring. The compressed block curriculum scheduling essentially doubles up courses so a year is presented 2-hours a day for a half year. Result: 2-hour sessions that do not generate the learning or experience that two separate 1-hour courses would have. The immersion concept is not executed as well as it might be. Lots of caring parents provide the difference that keeps the students and their results moving forward, if things do progress.
