Our award-winning website, GreatSchools.org, is the nation's leading guide to PreK-12 schools, with profiles of 200,000 public and private schools, and more than one million community ratings and reviews. Our new program, GreatKids, is a mobile-friendly stream of information and activities that helps parents guide their children to education success. This year our combined programs will reach more than 52 million unique visitors, including more than half of all American families with children.

Our staff of approximately 60 has expertise in digital media, parenting, and education. We work together to create innovative and impactful resources for families, combining high-quality research with intuitive design. Headquartered in Oakland, CA, GreatSchools operates programs in a growing number of cities and states across the country, including Detroit, Indianapolis, and Milwaukee. We currently operate with a $10-15M annual budget.

VP Marketing

GreatSchools is looking for an energetic Marketing leader who will push the envelope to help us achieve our mission of improving educational outcomes for kids by inspiring and supporting parents to be their champions. In this pivotal role, you will be the chief brand manager, oversee product marketing for our consumer and enterprise offerings (GreatSchools.org, GreatSchools Local, and GreatKids.org), manage communications and media relations, lead customer care, and support revenue teams.

Digital Writer/Editor/Content Producer

Our small energetic editorial team is looking for a wonderful collaborative digital writer/editor/content producer who is passionate about education and parenting. We are open to associate editor or senior editor level experience.

This is a 3-month contract position (approximately 20-30 hours a week). This contract has the potential to transition into a full-time position.

Senior Product Manager

Do you love making things that actually make a difference in the lives of those who use them? At GreatSchools we develop products that help half of America’s families get their kids a great education. This position gives you a chance work on a top 500 website, alongside an experienced team, that delivers a great deal of value to people.

We have an immediate position available for an experienced Senior Product Manager to oversee the development of our emergent platform, GreatKids. The Senior Product Manager will be responsible for leading an agile development team in defining, delivering and measuring new features for that platform. Qualified candidate will work independently and with experienced team members, under the supervision of the VP of Product.

Data Management Associate (contract position)

We are seeking a Data Management Associate to join our growing data team to expand our capacity to transform and load large education datasets into our database for publication on our website and integration into data feeds. Specifically, the Data Management Associate will be responsible for the successful execution of a newly launched pilot project to gather, publish, and share data on college readiness and matriculation for high schools across the country.

Data Partnerships Manager

We are seeking a Data Partnerships Manager to join our growing data team. The Data Partnerships Manager will lead efforts to gather, publish, and share rich data on school quality and characteristics. One key area of focus will be working with state education agencies, P-20 governing bodies, and third party data providers to collect data on college readiness and matriculation by high school. Through this work, we aim to help parents find schools that are likely to prepare students for post-secondary success, provide insights to people working to improve the PK-20 pipeline, and drive demand for greater transparency into college-going data. More broadly, the Data Partnerships Manager will drive enhancements to our data products, with the aim of providing best-in-class school information and national measures of school quality to the education community as well as the general public. In this vein, this position will play a significant role in helping to shape the national conversation about school quality measurement.

Ruby on Rails Developer

We have an immediate 6-9 month temporary position available for an experienced Ruby on Rails developer to join us in implementing new and exciting features on our website GreatSchools.org. Candidates must have demonstrable success as a web developer, at least one year of experience with Ruby on Rails, and excellent skills working on an agile Scrum team.

You will be part of a fun team of experienced developers and will work in a test-driven development environment. You’ll brainstorm solutions to challenging problems, use great tools like Ruby on Rails, RSpec, Git, and JIRA, maintain excellent code quality, and collaborate with other teams. You’ll help make a measurable difference in the lives of people who use GreatSchools.org, while growing your skills as a web developer.
