My child was making A's and B's in 5th grade. When going to the middle school everything changed. Now a C Average. They should have kept 6th into the grade school. A very big change. And if you aren't popular not only the kids and teachers treat you like a piece of dirt on the street but also the parents. I would not recommend Cheney to anyone. A bunch of snobs in this quiet little town.

The teachers are great. The students also have a lot of oppurtunities to participate in special courses and extracurricular activites. The school is all around one of the best.

I loved Cheney Elementary, but the middle school stinks. They never should have put the 6th grade in with the middle school. There is a big difference in what is expected of them in the 5th grade and what is expected in the 6th grade. Most kids are not ready for it. All of my 4 children had at least a B average in the elementary school, then totally lost it in the 6th grade. The teachers are so discrimatory against kids that aren't originally from Cheney, or are not rich. If you are a home grown Cheney person you are fine, if not, watch out. Most of the teachers grew up in Cheney and have neices, nephews, kids, etc., that do get differential treatment. The only good thing CMS had was the principal, Mr. Krohn, and for some reason they didn't renew his contract, probably because he treated everyone fairly.
