I cannot say enough good things about this school!! There is a real and solid caring atmosphere that pervades everything they do. One of the best ways to judge a school staff is not by how they handle things when dealing with what they already know...but how they manage a situation in which they are less than prepared. During a lock-down situtaion last year following a school shooting in another state, Mrs. Kirby (principal) visited every class room and explained the situation very simply to the children in ways that they could understand. She was back in the classes the next day to answer questions and provide reassurance. She is amazing and has developed an incredible team at West. We feel lucky to be there!

We are new to the area. We just moved here the end of December. Our 3rd grader is in Mr. Spring's class. This is his first year of teaching. Our daughter is extremely shy and we were concerned about how she would handle the transfer. We've been very surprised at how well it's gone. Mr. Spring has made her instantly feel like she was part of the group. He's done a fantastic job of integrating her with the other kids. The interim principal, I think, knows every kid by name and speaks to each of them as they walk in every morning. She has personalized each day for them. So far, this school has gone well above what we expected in welcoming our daughter. Mr. Spring has made learning fun in his classroom. I have learned that it is not necessarily experience that makes a good teacher.
