Staff in the Turner district are known to have anger issues. On any given day walking down the halls of Midland trail you will hear teachers and staff yelling & screaming at students. During lunch the students are not allowed to seat where they want and when they do permit the students to talk, they have to whisper. If one or more students become "to loud" the staff of duty will scream at the students to be quit and every child in the cafeteria is forced to have a silent lunch. This school also has NO ART CLASS! Majority of children attending this school are in poverty and art is an essential part of assisting these children to express themselves opposed to acting out in other ways. There is no room for individualization, my child was acing every spelling test (pretest and post). I brought it to the teachers attention. When we spoke, she informed me she couldn't individualize the curriculum per the superintendent. The teacher and I came up with a plan for my daughter to use vocabulary words as bonus words. This particular teacher was awesome but is no longer teaching in Turner as I've seen time and time again, very few good teachers stay in Turner USD 202.
This is a great school. The administration and staff really work with the parents and students to get the most out of education. You can tell that the staff actually care about the kids and are willing to work though issues that may arise instead of ignoring them.
Midland Trail Elementary is an awesome school! The administration, staff, and PTA works extremely hard to make sure the children are learning. There are many programs to get the parents involved in their childs education. The test scores prove this!
