Both of my kids went to Southwest Junior High. It is an exemplary public school.

Great school. I went there for three years and I was pleased with the facility, academics, athletics and teachers in the school.

There are 4 junior high schools in Lawrence, and Southwest is the best. At first glance, the school may seem large and impersonal. But step inside and you find the students come first.

2005 makes the eighth continuous year our children attended Southwest. This is a superb experience! Our three sons continue to excel in life largely due to the wonderful teaching & curriculum they've experienced at this school. The reading & math programs combine to set an unparalleled standard throughout the region. Now that our youngest is nearly finished with ninth grade, we will miss this extraordinary school. Socially, athletically, and academically, Southwest turns out budding sophomores truly ready to tackle anything High School may offer. SWJHS 'graduates' emerge both confident & competent in the three R's, the arts, and social skills. Free State High School also proves quite impressive (especially in their science & music programs). The other neat thing about SW is how the students feed into both local high schools. This ensures true & lasting friendships across otherwise SACRED boundaries!
