I have never been more frustrated with a school that I have been with this one. This is truly a school that caters to the underachieving students at the expense of the motivated and over-achieving student. My daughter was in choir first semester and after coming home for several weeks disgusted with the behavior of the kids as well as the teacher's lack of control in the classroom, I contacted the counselor and had her removed. There are paras and extra staff for children who really don't care to do their work, while kids who WANT to learn are not able to get the attention they need. This year, due to very poor reading skills, they are having to implement a reading program because so many children are behind! My daughter, who should be in other classes learning more pertinent things, is now having to sit through a class where these kids are having to read aloud. I was once a champion for the Newton school system, but in ten years they have gone from a system with promise to a system that caters to the underachiever and the student who is behind. While this may be great news for the child who is behind-it is HORRIBLE for the child who is motivated and above average!
