When we moved here from a bigger dist. I was not worried about this school because of the rating on here. I was wrong. There is def. a small town mentality and if you are an outsider you are not included in activities or felt welcome at the school. The principal seemed nice, but was not persistant or helpful when my son, who is a gifted student, got bored with the easy curriculum. Neither was his teacher. My daughter did fine because she was an average student and coming from a harder school she found the studies easy. The only positive thing I would say about the school was the preschool. The teachers were caring and welcoming and my five year old, who had never been to day care or school and had a hard time at first. They handled him well and he improved greatly. Having said that I can think of many other things that bothered me when I visited there. The other children were rude and disrespectful, the cafeteria food was horrid, and the librarian didn't encourage the children to excel either. There was no security (camera's, sign-ins, ID badges) and even the kids who lived a few blocks away rode the bus which seemed like a waste of money. If you can, avoid this school. We moved.

I can't say enough positive things about Nickerson Elementary. The teachers are very dedicated and caring towards the students. Mr. George, the Principal, interacts daily with the children and the kids there love him. Nickerson is a family oriented community and there is parent involvement throughout the year with the room parties, field trips, and fund raisers at the school. I have met other parents through school functions which has been nice as well! One big plus this '05-'06 school year was all day Kindergarten which my daughter attended. I couldn't believe she was reading books within the first few months of the school year. By the end of the year they were doing simple math equations. With the allday program they were able to teach more to the students each day! Before Kindergarten our daughter attended the half preschool they offer for their students. This is a great school!

I must say I love this school. We just moved here from Texas; where two out of my 3 kids were failing. Now since moving here they are all passing with high grades. The staff is very friendly and encourages family involvment, there is alot of one on one teaching if its needed. They spend alot of time having fun with the children too. The leadership of this school is most excellent; the principal is very involved with his school and thats a terrific plus! Its just a wonderful school and i'm very proud to say I would rate it a 10!
