Heritage Elementary School

Our son is attending Heritage for his 1st Grade year, after going to Scarborough for his Kindergarten year. Heritage doesn't have full day kindergarten, where as the other school did. Our child has had some difficulty in school since he has ADHD. The teacher (Mrs Stanley), the Principal and the staff there has been very supportive and very good with helping our son succeed. He still slips up here and there, but they have been able to deal with it much better than his previous school. The office staff is friendly and supportive, the principal is very approachable, and the teachers are not only available to talk about your child, but they encourage communication, and solicit your input often. I give them 5 stars, and I think that they are well deserved.

3 of my school aged children have or currently attend Heritage. It is a typical Olathe KS grade school. Excellent principal who makes himself available to students/parents and teachers that communicate well with students/parents. One down side is the physical location of the school atop a hill with a small parking lot. Can be difficult to maneuvar in and out of the parking lot when dropping off/picking up kids.

The past two years have been the best we've experienced at Heritage. We have had children attending Heritage for the past 12 years and of the three principals the current principal is by far the best. He's visible and he treats everyone with respect - students & parents. He is approachable and willing to listen. He treats everyone equally and does not play favorites among parents like the previous administrator. The changes he's made have been a long time coming and anyone who is involved and at the school on a regular basis will tell you the same thing.

I had one child at this school. There was a change in principal 2 years ago and the quality of the school dropped dramatically. My son was bullied throughout the year, his grades dropped, and my wife and I had numerous meetings with the principal. My son had always been an A/B student and was bringing home C/D/F grades. We contacted his teachers with e-mails (only 1 of 3 responded consistently) and were forced to have numerous meetings with the principal asking for help. My opinion--go to Clearwater Creek, where the old principal went or avoid the Olathe district.

I have 2 kids in this school and have found the teachers and staff to be excellent. We moved from another school in the district and found Heritage to be a vast improvment. The education is top notch and the staff seem to be dedicated and professional.

We have three children in this school and are very dissatisfied with the quality of the education that they are receiving. Often tests are sent home with answers that are wrong counted as correct and there are frequently basic grammatical errors in correspondence and curriculum. We are considering moving to enable the children to go to another school. To have an assembly to get the children all jazzed up about fundraising when the standardized test scores are so low comparatively is disturbing. Parent involvement is limited to fundraising and concern for curriculum is minimal.
