Boyd County High School is ranked number one is test scores in the Region and has taken education to a whole new level. They are now opening a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Academy to better prepare students advanced college classes. Also, students are now able to receive over 60 free college hours through Morehead State University before they ever graduate from high school. On top of all the high schools academic success they are in the process of building a brand new state of the art high school that will be opening December 2012. This is the high school to watch!! All of the high schools success has been accomplished under the leadership of Ms. Rhonda Salisbury, a wonderful and caring principal who always has her students best interest in mind with every decision she makes.
This is a great school district. A long awaited new high school is under construction. Our community will benefit greatly.
am a parent of a sophomore student who attends BCHS. First let me say that no matter what school you attend, there's going to be needs for improvement, especially in this age of ever-changing technology. I strongly believe that if your child is self-motivated, ambitious, and striving for a higher education, then they will recieve it regardless of the high school in which they attend. The quality of the teacher is crucial, but in the end, the truth of the matter is that a student will get as much out of a school as they put into it. BCHS has some excellent teachers, especially in the areas of math and science. BCHS has graduated some outstanding students who have gone on to prestigious colleges and universites.
Boyd County High School as developed programs that are cutting edge and the addition of a new building will put this school at the top of the charts
The school is outdated and needs lots of repairs. A new building is in the plans. The true problem lies within administration. The principal needs to go. She isn't there for the good of the students. BCHS will never be a top notch school until new leadership is brought in. I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. Central Office tends to turn their heads. I wish KDE would come in and audit the principal and her actions, I'm sure they would be surprised.
I Believe that there are some extreme policy changes that need to be made. Especially with Tardy Policies and Dicipline. Some of the School's Administrators turn to Intimidation and screaming over Calm and Rational speech. Also not very helpful when dealing with them concerning diciplinary issues. The School's Campus in general doesnt seem too secure either.
Typical public school where the kids are second to the addiction of state money. What it needs is accountability of repairs to its structure. If more space is needed build more buildings (out or up). If the roof leaks replace it. Need new technology? Run cables or go wireless. A new building will not make kids smarter or improve the curriculum. It will give your politicians yet another excuse to go deeper into your pocketbook.
Honestly, don't send your kids to Boyd County High School, unless you absolutely hate them and wish for them to fail at life. As a current student there, it has a very poor quality. Everything is old and falling apart, there's not enough room for students in the building, most of the teachers fail to teach students anything, the technology is far outdated, and there are too many poor things to list about this school. I am an avid learner, and manage to stay ahead by using other sources, though the school by itself will not teach anyone enough to go out into the real world and make anything out of themselves. You may as well be homeschooled, you'll save yourself 8 hours in the day that you could use researching what you need to know, and probably learn a lot quicker and easier.
Boyd county high school is in dire need of a new building. The roof leaks and everything is outdated. There is not enough building space for the students. The availability of technology for the students is quite minimal. As for the teachers, there are a few that are exceptional, but bad teachers far exceed the good ones. Overall, I think this school is pretty good. With some improvements to the building (either remodeling or the construction of a new school), technology upgrades, and some new faculty, Boyd County High School would be a wonderful place for children to go to school.
The school is in need of an upgrade to the 21st century in many areas including technology and leadership. Its time for the older generation to step down so a new younger generation can lead the school.
