Well I have a seven year old child attending the Russell Cave Elementary School, from what her mom and her tells me it seems that the school on a hold is doing there very best to educate there students and also encouraging them to be someone better in life. I can just say one them job well done. A concerned parent from Belize, Central America

This school is a hidden gem in Fayette County. The student/teacher ratio is low and the entire staff is very caring, from top to bottom. We transport our 3rd-grade son out of district because the quality of his instruction and care is so high. Everyone there seems to have a vested interest in each child. All children are constantly greeted warmly by all staff members, but made to behave correctly at the same time. Everyone has made special efforts on behalf of my son, who has special needs. Even the custodian has taken the time to teach him about coin values and the presidents on them (and given him quite a few along the way!). Parents are always encouraged to volunteer in classrooms. Russell Cave is such a very special school that we've enrolled our typical daughter in kindergarten out-of-district there this fall. We've never had a problem there.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Kentucky used the Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT) to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 through 12 in reading, social studies, science, writing, and math. The Elementary School results displayed on GreatSchools profiles are for grades 3 through 5 combined for each subject. Middle School results are for grades 6 though 8 combined, and High School results are for grades 10 though 12 combined. The KCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Kentucky.
