My son is in the gifted program here. When in electives, the non gifted students are constantly insulting him AND his friends, calling them racial insults (white boy, cracker, etc.). Some kids are so disruptive that they yell and walk out of class. He has been physically assaulted because he had the wrong notebook. If your kid is gifted, realize they will become a target at this horrible school. The principal has not helped with these issues.
I went to this school's G/T program. It was awful. Possibly the worst school I've ever been in. There's some imformation that I'm not allowed to disclose but take my word, the teachers are terrible and the school is trash. Great school if you want free grades because half of your grade is not talking or disrupting class and you need a 2/8 to pass. You can just sleep in class every day as long as you don't disrupt class you pass. It was fun but not really an educational environment. If you're looking for a decent education go to some other school. If you're looking for a free path through middle school and a few broken arms from fights, go to Tates creek middle. (There was no 0star option).
TCMs provides many opportunities for students. The Gifted/Talented program is fantastic. The school is inviting. I always feel welcomed. I volunteer at least 3-4 times a week and have LOVED it. The PTSA does a fantastic job providing different ways for parents to be involved beside providing snacks for a team sport. The grading system is different but that is because of the IB program - once it is explained, it is easier to keep track if my child is having problems with the actual work or not turning something in. Very helpful and insightful to see that she was disorganized but knew the content.
It is a terrible school. Most of the kids are completely disrespectful and a lot of them are racist. They use a stupid grading system that makes no sense. Bullying happens all the time, but I don't see much being done about it. Don't come to this school!
I have had 3 children attend this school in the last 10 years. The change of administration in the past 5 years has made a tremendous improvement overall. Scores are climbing. TCMS is a IB school, as well the home of the Gifted/Talented program for southern Fayette Co. Parent involvement has improved, but because so many parents now work full-time, that has kept it from a 5-star rating.
