I have 2 children that attended Veteran's Park and both loved the experience and have grown incredibly. Parental involvement is off the charts!

If I could give a split review, I would. For the positives...Parent involvement is fantastic (and largely what makes this school stand out); The math program is good (would give it 3.5-4 stars); The quality of the teachers, in my experience, is quite good. For the negatives...Class sizes are larger than average (which makes the high parental involvement necessary); The reading program needs work -- it is average, at best (both of my children read at above their grade levels, according to VP school but both seem to be behind some of their counterparts (i.e., friends) at other schools, which makes me doubt that VP's standards are as high as other schools); Along the same lines, Junie B. Jones is a fun & enjoyable book for children to read but I have serious issues with my child 'learning' to read from a book like this (bad spelling & grammar).

My son attended Veterans Park Elementary for three years before a job transfer moved us to a different state. Our new elementary school is also rated a '10' on greatschools.com, but it still suffers by comparison to Veterans. Veterans Park Elementary is second to none in its academic programs including a dedicated English as a Second Language teacher, a gifted and talented program, grouped teaching for greatest effectiveness. The school offers a truly dynamic, fantastic group of teachers and a principal who respects the students, creates a caring and safe facility, and uses sensible rules handle situations before they become problems. The parent involvement is amazing -- a stream of volunteers and every PTA chair position is filled. The students seem to have a high degree of respect for one another and older students are proud to help the younger students. I cannot imagine a better school.

VPE is an outstanding school. My daughter has been there for K and 1st grade so far and I am amazed by the quality of the education she is receiving there. The teachers are dedicated, professional and go way beyond what is expected of them. Parent involvement at VPE fuels the positive motivation that is seen from the administration, staff and students. In my opinion, VPE is a better school than any other public or private school in Lexington and surrounding areas.

I have two children in Veterans Park Elementary, 2nd grade and kindergarten. The quality of their academic programs is outstanding. I'm a parent volunteer in my children's classrooms, which is wonderful because you can really get a good look at what goes on inside the classroom. They teach the children how to be good citizens through their guidance classes and monthly projects, like donating food to God's Pantry. Also, I've never seen so much parent involvement in one school, it's awesome! My children and I love Veterans Park Elementary! K.D. Isert

I have visited the school on many occassionas and find the Teachers and the Staff the best. I feel that my Grandaughter is getting the best education possible. The School has many extra accitivities that the parents and grandparents may attend. The only thing that I have a complainent about is the the parking and that is not all bad when so many parents and Grandparents turn our to support their kids and grandkids. It is a great school. I wish that my other granddaughter had the opportinity to attend Veterans Park George C Scott
