I went to KCD from kindergarten till 6th grade. The years in kindergarten trough 4th were great, but then going into 5th grade I was started to b bullied an it was harsh and I was bullied even worse in 6th grade because a new student arrived and joined the bullies and made me feel even worse about my self. I would recomend it for lower school but in middle school is when u start being bullied. Oh and in middle school the teachers start to not care as much they leave you on you own and don't try to help and if u have ADD or ADHD, they will act like they care and let you take test in the library but there are always classes going on in there so its just as noisy! So I would not recomend this for middle school but would for lower school. -Former KCD student

I have been part of the KCD community for seven years now. I went to a public school before that, and I must say, I can't imagine there is a better school. I have been a part of seven plays, and have won five state championships for sports since I have been here. The teachers are amazing and can help whenever you need it. We are all so close, and I don't know anyone that I would want to leave the school. We all know we get made fun of for being "white rich kids," but we know that we also have the opportunity to go to the best school in this area. In many of the sports I play, KCD offers extra programs where we meet kids from all the other schools interested in that sport as well. I am so blessed to be here, and I never want to have to leave.

My daughter received an outstanding education at Kentucky Country Day. She is prepared for any college that she decides to attend. The school has a close knit family feel lacking at larger public schools. The teachers are available for extra help if a student needs it. There has been very little of the school problems that could derail a child's education, such as bullying, drugs and alcohol. I do not know of any teenage pregnancy problems in the K-11 years my daughter has attended. Not having to worry about social issues clouding my child's education has been a major comfort in my life.

KCD, coming from an A+ student, is a challenging school. Their academics are some of the highest in the state. The teachers are very encouraging but have specific teaching techniques that don't work with all. Their athletics, on the other hand, are not very good. Very few varsity teams have won state in a long time even with the great facilities. They have invested much time and money into the Fine Arts and theater programs, which causes these programs to be very good. Everything at KCD is very tight knit. This, for me, is a bad thing. I am very social and love meeting new people. Most of my friends are from other schools. Very few students from KCD know maybe 3 or 4 people from other schools. They are very close with the 60/70 kids in our grade that we've known since Kindergarden. You develop a good bond with these people but don't experience new things or meet new people. Coming in high school would be a problem for even the most social person because most "cliques" are already formed and exclusive.To be honest, KCD is made fun of by all other schools. Their the "rich, white kids who don't have any friends". Now I love my KCD friends, but I want to know more people than just them

I'm a KCD student. I love everything about the school. It has amazing academics, fine arts, and athletic programs.

To "rate" an institution such as KCD could prove difficult. I attended LCD for 4 years, graduated 1970. Most of my yuppie brethen, although disenfranchaised from one another, have done well--assuming they followed the prescribed course. That "course" required a "followup" of the post-LCD/KCD networking guide of "success," arguably based on an academic assumptions--a good deal of them became lawyers, others: CEO's-- Wasn't that the cookie cutter expectation? When I walked off of the campus for the last time, graduation day, I never looked back-- 4 long miserable years--finally over. A recent class reunion--even after 40 years-- proved what I suspected all along-- the arrogance still persists with the majority. However, the assessement here on my part is flawed by looking at the results of the school as opossed to the institution itself. For the "others" like me, maybe those of some artistic inclination, or musicians, life after CD wasn't rosey. That may have all changed by now, and I hope it did.

This school is definetly the best school in Kentucky. The teachers are excellent and they challenge their students.

We just entered our 8th year at KCD and have 2 kids there (4th and 7th). Hands down the best school in KY. Teachers are excellent, moral code of the school and expectations of its students is stellar, the environment can't be beat and most importantly (for us) is most academically challenging. The Parent/Teacher/School relationship and involvement is the backbone of the school's success. We highly recommend this school !

Great school, undoubtedly the best in KY. A lot of phenomenal teachers. Their high school Spanish program is lacking far more than they'd ever believe or admit. I was only there for 2 years of high school, but I know the lower and middle school are excellent. I give it 4 stars because I certainly would NEVER send my kid there as a new student past freshman year. The majority of the students have all been together since they were 5 and as such, a good plenty are not keen on allowing new people into their groups. Also (not ethnically speaking) the student body really is not that diverse. The school probably can't be faulted for this-how much diversity can one expect from a class of 67 or so students from very similar economic backgrounds? Laptop program is a huge joke-we all just played games. I learned less bc of it!

My son has been at KCD since JK except for second grade. He really has enjoyed going to school there and has been given ti this date a very well rounded education. The school has good diversity within and the learning a presented in a way that it is not too stressful for the students. They do learn most of the larger bone groups and have a neuro anatomy and cardiovascular class in the elemantry portion of the school. I feared this would be too advanced but the fashion everything was presented in was good for their level. I feel that due to the good teachers and teaching methods it makes it easier for the children to retain all the information they are given. I think sending our child here was the best descion we could have made!

I am also a student at KCD, and I love this school. I have played almost every sport there is, and have been in two plays. At KCD, the teachers are caring and in my opinion, the best in the region. The school work is very challenging, but very fun. I would not want to go to any better school. Ever.

My son just entered kindergarden at KCD and went to Junior K there last year. My husband and I are absolutely love this school. I would recommend to anyone interested. My son loves the teachers and their teaching style so much.

I am a student at KCD, and I am so glad to be lucky enough to experience this. First of all, I have an A+ average, and it was because of the stellar teachers that teach there (most notably some of the now retired teachers.) Over the years, I was, and still am, smitten with the Fine Arts. The dramatic productions are a joy to act in, and also, for all parents, a joy to watch. Their music productions are so vivid and emotional, and the art there is just fantastic. KCD provides an excellent lunch as well, with the kitchens having five star chefs. The after school programs are very educational, even for sports, for a team is rewarded more for having good sportsmanship than winning the game. The teaching at KCD makes you want to come to school, for it is so exciting and spirited. Overall, KCD rocks!

The academic programs at KCD are varied and challenging. The lower school has just implemented an excellent new math program. They are also researching ways to improve the 'reading comprehension' of all students. A new lower school 'Strings' program was added this year. Their 50 acre campus allows them to offer just about any sport that a child would like. The level of parent involvement is phenomenal.

Kentucky Country Day is, all around, an amazing school. 15% of the senior class were national merit semi-finalists. My daughter is academically gifted, and KCD has been helpful and supportive, always providing teachers that will help her make the most of her school experience. Peer pressure and teasing are practically nonexistant, and any cases of this are quickly and efficiently dealt with by the staff. KCD also has a distinguished athletic program, with the sixth grade and eighth grade field hockey teams winning the Chestnut and Acorn field hockey tournaments, respectively. The seventh/eighth grade volleyball team won their championship, as did the soccer team. The varsity field hockey team captured state. KCD is an all-accpeting community, respected by all.
