If you looking for a hidden jewel, then Newburg Middle School is for your family. We now have our youngest child entering Newburg and are excited to get her started. We have the utmost confidence in our choice and know from past experience that she will excel in this middle school. The teachers and principal will make sure of this. Put the rumors to rest about the neighborhood. Our two older children were fine and I never felt unsafe while visiting the school. There are a lot of after school clubs for the students. Remember, no school is perfect, especially middle school. If your looking for a great education regardless of socioeconomics, race, or religion, than this is the school for you. The MST and Advance program rocks!
As an alumni of newburg i would highly reccomend this school. although it is in a not so great neighborhood the academic programs are amazing. they have great teachers, administrators, and a great principal. I attended newburg in the advanced MST classes and loved it. all the teachers are great and they know how to keep classes fun. Since newburg is in a not so great neighborhood some students are not good role models so i wouldn't reccomend sending a child that is more of a follower then a leader, but besides that they are great and because of newburg. Their staff is also very helpful and helped me with my entire application process to get into Manual High
This is a great school. They have caring teachers and a great principal. I really recomend this school to any folks looking for a middle school.
the school is a total prison for 6th graders! you get home work in every subject every single night, even on the week ends! and you cant wear a jacket with a zipper! and there are so many arguments and fights!
My kid loves it he just comes home everyday and just brags on the school all he talks about is school ,he is always ready for school
Newburg is great. It's da school in are area. All the kids are well behave. Teachers yell sometimes but most are good.
Newburg is the best kept secret in Louisville public schools. We have two children that attended Newburg over a 6 year period and it was a wonderful place to learn and grow. There are some tough students but all students are handled with firmness and compassion. They educate the students they get and do an excellent job meeting the needs of all students. They take students from where they are and encourage them to achieve to the highest levels. They do not tolerate bullying and every student is treated fairly and with respect regardless of their heritage. I highly recommend Newburg.
If enrollment and the first day of school are indicators of what is to come, I am very excited about our choice of a middle school. I have never experienced a more organized registration in my child's prior school years. We were in the front doors and out in 6 minutes. All of our fears about middle school were put to rest on the first day by the organization and smiling faces of every adult we met. Our daughter is excited and anxious to go to school and we hope this continues.
Great Students, Great Teachers, Great Administrators equal a GREAT SCHOOL! Our experience with the staff of Newburg has been the best. My children's education is of the greatest importance in our household. Newburg Middle School has provided an excellent education for two of our children and I look forward to the day that our youngest child will attend Newburg. Parents should take a good look at the programs offered at Newburg and the caring environment that they provide. The principal is always open to parent concerns and values the opinions of all stakeholders.
I went to Newburg all three years of middle school and I cannot recommend any incoming elementary student to go to Newburg. Parents, your child, while at Newburg, will probably make many friends and have a lot of fun, but the learning environment is poor. While at Newburg I earned poor grades and did poor work. The reason that I got bad grades wasn't because I was dumb, I was in the MST program, it was because it was a poor place to learn. When I graduated in 2006 I went to St. X where I am in honors classes and am planning on taking a AP course next year(Junior). Heed this advice, go to private school if possible, if not, consider a different school.
Our twins will be 7th graders at Newburg Middle School this comming fall. We have found Newburg Middle School to be academically challenging and provides a safe learning environment for our daughters. Overall the teachers are fair and challenge their students to set higher goals for themselves. The principal is always visible and available when needed. She has very high expectations of her staff members and holds them accountable. There is a dean for each grade level. We have only dealt with the 6th grade dean and have found her to be friendly, sincere and eager to assist parents when called upon. The school is one of the cleanest schools I have been in. Our only concern was with the policy of NO OUTSIDE DRINKS being brought into the school for lunch purposes. At first reluctant, we now understand the importance of this safety policy. I highly recommend this school.
This school is soooooooooooo disorganized! They are too focused on sports. I absoulutly don't like going there & am trying to transfer to another more challenging school. I also don't like the uniforms & tmost of the teachers. The teachers let the bad kids slide while the good kids just slip up one time and get into trouble.
My daughter attended Newburg and the performance of the school (on every level) was so poor, that we moved her to a private school.
The quality of the academic programs at Newburg Middle school are extremely sufficient and offer a variety of different classes for students that learn differently. However, I do have to say that a few of teachers that my child has encountered at the school seem to more interested in proving that they have authority over students rather than the students education. Mrs. Hicks, the Principal is an extremely, extremely good principal who is very active in her school. She seems to know her students well and also takes the time to address parents concerns. I would recommended Newburg Middle school to other parents of students going into middle school and would do so with great confidence knowing that my child is getting an excellent and well-rounded education complete with extracurricular activities.
The principal should handle how the teachers act towards the kids rather than how the kids treat the teachers. I have seen in several cases where the teachers will not even give a verbal repremand and assign detention without giving the child a chance to explain. The teachers will yell at all the kids instead of acting like a responsible adult and handling one or two kids in a reasonable punishment. Everyone seems to care more about the basketball and step team and the cheerleaders rather than the rest of the children. The deans should handle bullying and race/ethnicity problems more seriously. People bother people about race and their ethnical backgrounds more than any other school I've seen.
