This School Is STRICT. Yes We Are Taught Very Well, & Are Respected By MOST of the teachers. But they Dont let us do anything, they treat Us as if were still in elementary school. We have to walk in a line on a blue piece on tape To every class, we dont get to sit where we at lunch, we have to sit with our class. We Wear Uniforms which is ok , but when we do get to dress out We Cant Wear What We want, you cant where skinny jeans, you only can wear 2 bracelets on your arm, were not allowed to wear a certain type of necklaces. I had an necklace that said barbie and they made me Take it Off. We cant Dye Our hair Any Color, A few students in our school would wear braids and get a little bit of color like light Brown & they will make you Take It Out. They Dont Treat All the students equal . As you can See 52% of The school is White , & about 8 out of 10 of the teachers are white too. And they Treat Most of the white Students Better. Overall carrithers Is a Good school But They Are Strict & dont treat Students Equally.
My child is a special needsv child and this school's program for thesev type children is horrible. They nevevwent by what his IEP read. Infact it was totally disreguarded. Bullying was a continous problem. My child was not only tormented for his disability he was physically beaten by 2 regular education kids. Plus the school seemed not willing to help resolve the situation. Needless to say I pulled my son out of the school after 2 months. We are now home schooling where I know my child is safe and his needs are met.
I went to Carrithers Middle School my 7th and 8th grade year. I'm not sure why people think its such a bad school. All of the staff and especially my teachers were very nice and cared about us. What is such the big deal? Its not a bad school, and this is coming from a former student there.
I went to carrithers for my 8th grade year and I thought it was an awesome school I dont see why people are always saying how bad it is.
i dont like the idea of people judging a school when they dont even know anything about the school i was going to carrithers im a freshman now but when i was there for three years i always felt safe the teachers were kind and helpful i could talk to mrs.hume when i realy need to nothing bad every happened at our school no one every bought a gun or anything like that they did bring candy but what student doesnt i feel that people need to get there facts right before you judge
Im a student going to Carrithers Middle School, im currently in the 8th grade. The parents who write bad things about CMS, have no idea about how bad the school is; because they dont' even attend there. I think the school is really wonderful and safe. I don't think the teachers yell at the students for no reason! The teachers only yell at the student because of the disrespect they dish out. I also love the guidance counseling they have! I feel very comfortable talking to Ms. Hume or Mrs. Mohr, I look foward to going to school and seeing my friends and teachers! :)
I am a 7th grade student who goes to this school. I feel that the teachers are great, but nothing gets resolved unless parents get envolved. Bullying is a huge problem in this school. Sometimes I dread school because of bullying in periods.
I have a 7th grader this year at Carrithers. My son has been doing well and likes his school and teachers. I am an involved parent and have met and talked to all of his teachers. Ms. Gausepohl is a terrific principal who has turned this school around. She has a strong staff behind her and it is known that they can be strict, but they only are to teach our kids to show respect to others and to keep everyone safe. I have younger children and when the times comes they will proudly attend Carrithers also.
As a parent I am extremely disappointed with CMS. Avoid this school like the plague! They don't even have enough school books for the children to take home. The library doesn't even have it's own room, it's in the middle of the hallway! Run far & fast!
I am now an 8th grader at carrithers middle school! the school is great! the staff is very caring. They treat kids the way the kids treat them! for you parents who say our school is not a good school, well your wrong! you have never spent months in the class room and observing what we do! so you really don't know what your talking about! if there is something wrong in our school, our teachers and principal will try and help as much as possible! if they didnt care about us then we wouldnt have brand new computers each year and new textbooks! if your child gets in trouble, then thats their fault. They get yelled at becuase they did wrong! theres no way a teacher will let a student disrespect them! yes the teachers do yell at the students but not for no reason!
I am a parent of two children at CMS. The past two years have been terrible! My kids have been yelled at by staff, they have been singled out and belittled. They have had many issues with harrassment and bullying. As a parent I do not feel these types of issues are handled, I've been forced into dealing with most school problems on my own. I agree with so many things you other parnts have had to say and only wish we could band together in our effort to give our children a safe and happy learning environment. I would not recomend this school on any level.
I am a 8th grade at Carrithers middle school.I think that this school is very safe. This is a very spirited school. This is a great school, everyone here feels like a great big family
My daughter is currently in the 8th grade at Carrithers. I have been more than impressed with everything the school has to offer. The teachers and principal truly care about the students. I happen to be very glad the administration chooses to enforce the rules they have in place. It allows my children to feel safe in school. I highly recommend this school.
my children transferred to CMS after attending SLA. They have made a 360 turn around. The teachers are GREAT!
I have a daughter that attends Carrithers and a son that attended several years ago. We have been very happy with the education our children have received. The teachers are extremely caring and concerned about the success of every child. The safety and discipline just gets better and better every year. Everyone I have dealt with has gone over and above what I expected. My son was very prepared for both high school and college and my daughters test scores have been incredible. I could not be happier with what is happening at Carrithers.
Carrithers does nothing to prepare these kids for high school. My niece, who lives with us is now in year 2 there and never has homework. I have a daughter at Crosby and she is bombarded with homework and is actually challenged at school. While my niece makes good grades, she is not remotely challenged.
I am not a parent but I go to Carrithers and Recently in the 7th grade. I think that you parents are right they do yell at us for no reson.I was shocked that when I got back to school they had LOCKS on the bathroom doors! I was very upset only because of a few students we have to have locks on the doors. That showa lack of dispine. The reading and writing scores are horible, the only reson why is because the teachers spend too much time on stuff we all ready know.
I currently have 2 children attending CMS. This yr has been a real struggle. Teachers complain to me constantly my son will not do his work in school. When it is completed at home, they say I am doing his work. They talk down to my children, tear them down, rather than build them up. There is little to no discipline. I have been on several field trips. Many opportunities to assist these children, help them grow are often overlooked. This school in my opinion has a very low rating. And based on the responses from other parents here, CMS is not intending to improve the learning experience for children because I cannot see changes.
Having a child that just left 8th grade and entering high school, I feel that I must rate the school very poor in terms of preparing them for high school with regard to homework and projects. My daughter's entire 3 years at Carrithers was homework free. When questioned at conferences, the teachers would uniformally say 'the kids just won't do it so we don't assign it.' My other complaint was there were never enough books to go around so that a child would easily bring a text book home. Parent involvement is encouraged and the new principal is wonderful. More could always be done. The sports at that school encourage the trouble parents to have too much power. Letters to the school about them seem to be ignored. I will not allow my second child to attend this school.
The teachers and administration at this school treat the kids as if they expect them to be bad. I have seen several incidences where the 'adults' have been screaming at the kids about how bad they are behaving. After chaperoning several field trips I haven't seen any of the kids behave in a way that warranted these out of control scream sessions. Maybe if the adults at this school would act better, this school would become a better place to learn.
