We worked hard to get our child into this school because we heard that there is a great diversity in the student body and such exposure may be beneficial to our child. We are quite disappointed to find out that our child's teacher is uncaring and never provides any feedback to us. We had expressed our concerns many times to both teacher and principal and so far there is no improvement. There is serious classroom management skills, misbehavior of students during class time as well as during recess. Parental volunteers is not welcomed and given the cold shoulder. You would think that any teacher would be grateful for any help a parent would offer but this is not the case here. There are other better teachers in the school but my child is not lucky enough to be in their class. Other parents had given up on asking for a transfer to a different class knowing the obstacles they will encounter on the way.

Rutherford Elementary School is terrible. Most of the students have problems with their behavior and they get a below average on tests. However, they do not care. Teachers take action and the head administration does too. But later, not much is done and it happens again and again. The teachers at Rutherford are all different. There's fantastic teachers that teaches and helps their students while there's teachers that are TOO nice and friendly. This may sound silly, but it's true. The teachers that are very nice ends up giving their favorite students favors and learning there is not distributed. So I have to admit, don't send your children here. They won't learn a lot.

I only rated this school with one star because you cant give them zero stars! This school is horrible and as the other parent below stated, they have failed the last two years! Some thing should be done about all these school failing year after year, but as the parent stated below, the "system" is overwhelmed! I have tried and tried to get my kids out of this school for the past two years!!!

No one has commented since 2008, what does that tell you? Currently this school has failed for two consecutive years. It has met 11 of the 17 academic testing goals, but did not make the AYP ( Adequate Yearly Progress ). Sadly like most schools, with bussed children and not many neighborhood families attending, it has a poor parent involvement. The school also is struggling with a huge language barrier with most of the parents there. More needs to be done on so many levels and with so many JCPS schools in need of guidance, it seems many schools will continue to be allowed to fail... because, " the system", itself is overwhelmed with its " own " failure.

This is my child's first year at Rutherford. I love the diversity and the sense of community there. Rutherford really makes you want to get involved and is very welcoming to parents. I'm so happy my child is attending school there.

Rutherford is a great school. The principal really makes you feel welcome. The academics have really taken off. I would recommend the school to anyone. Great atmosphere great people. Most of the parents here have no idea what a great place it is to go to school. It has been rewarded many times over.

I have had seven children at Rutherford. The teachers, staff, and leadership are excellent. I have had children in several Louisville area schools. Rutherford, by far, is my favorite. My children love it there. Rutherford has an excellent family resource center as well as an excellent afterschool program.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Kentucky used the Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT) to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 through 12 in reading, social studies, science, writing, and math. The Elementary School results displayed on GreatSchools profiles are for grades 3 through 5 combined for each subject. Middle School results are for grades 6 though 8 combined, and High School results are for grades 10 though 12 combined. The KCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Kentucky.
