Maximilian Montessori Academy serves a diverse sample of families from the Owensboro area. MMA students are able to learn core academics at their own individualized pace using the Montessori Method of education. Beyond academics, the students learn practical life skills and values that will equip them to be responsible citizens of the world. Students learn in unique classroom settings that foster a natural love for learning and personal responsibility. MMA offers students the opportunity to reach their full potential at every stage of development. The school receives no government funding and relies solely on tuition and students/parent fundraisers to operate. Families that desire to send their children to MMA are not turned away for financial reasons. Several MMA families who are not able to pay full tuition complete work around the school to offset the expense of school for their child. Our teachers are also extremely dedicated to their work, even though they receive salaries that are far below the average for most teachers. As a mother of 6 kids, all of whom attend MMA, this school far exceeds my expectations of the environment in which I want my children to learn.
MMA is a wonderful school, where children are taught on an individual basis. MMA meets the needs of every child, particularly gifted students and students with learning disabilities. Students are taught to be respectful and kind, and appreciate one another's differences. With small class sizes, teachers are able to give each student the one-on-one attention they need. Parents are encouraged to be involved and students feel like they are part of a family.
I'm very thankful to have chosen Maximilian Montessori Academy for my daughter. The Montessori approach, used at MMA, provides my child with the guidance and freedom she needs to learn at her own pace and to, more importantly, want to learn. The small teacher-to-student ratio ensures personalized attention and the dedication of all the teachers has been apparent to me and my family from day one. I would recommend MMA to any parent that wants their child to succeed in their own education.
Great for preschool, risky beyond that. As a parent of 2 children that use to attend & having invested over $30k+ in tution I feel parents need to use caution before placing MMA in charge of their child's education. Teachers children, and closely knitted friends of the teachers tend to create a tense learning environment, and classes are often controlled by unruly students. Many of the motesorri methods are used to a small degree, but children are not guided to complete tasks in an effective manner, and things like computers, reading materials, and other learning supplies are in short supply for some reason. Lack of standardized testing is also an issue. Several of the teachers are younger, and not very resourceful often choosing to yell or bully students. For the tuition paid it is insulting that the school does not produce actual results. I have recently moved away from the school, and both of my children are having more fun, and more accomplishments at Sutton Elementary a top rated local public school. Also be advised that due to the MMA results an alarming rate of students need to be placed in one grade lower to meet the standard grade levels. Caveat Emptor.....
After teaching in the public schools and not being very happy with the way things were going, I found this school for my preschooler. He loves it and I do too! The teachers are wonderful and caring. The montessori method is exactly what they child needed.
