This school has very lazy teachers in science and language arts especially in junior high causing poor preparation for high school although they are lacking big time in the chemistry and higher advanced science classes in high school. They have some teachers that have no personality and are nothing but smart ___ in the classroom. A few think since they have tenure they are home free with drawing a paycheck so they don't take teaching serious. I would recommend checking with other parents before enrolling in this once great academic shool and sports is nothing now at PHS like it was in past years!!
Pikeville is the BEST school in the entire state of Kentucky...I would say that it is the BEST school in the Nation, but i have onloy ever been to 20 other states in the U.S. One day i hope to say that it is DEFINITELY the BEST in the NATION!!
well for my son there good to him and he is trying so hard and his teacher is the best he has a big heart for his kids he is great
As a former PHS student, I could not be more proud of Pikeville High. The academics are superb, there is a wide array of extracurricular offerings, and the teachers are first class. Additionally, as a small independent school, there is an extremely close relationship between the community, especially alumni, and PHS. After discussing my alma mater with people who attended other high schools, especially in eastern Kentucky, I have become more convinced than ever that Pikeville is one of the premier school systems in Kentucky.
i am a former PHS student who graduated in 2005. although there were some things i disliked about PHS, i feel that it is an overall amazing school. i developed friendships that will last a life time, and relationships with teachers that i am truly grateful for. not only did i learn alot at pikeville, but i joined amazing athletic teams, got to cheer my friends on in their sports, and got to join amazing clubs that the school offered. the staff at pikeville high is wonderful..the principal, jon stratton, is more then this school could hope for..and the teachers are just as wonderful! the lunch ladies, and janitors are also awesome too...pikeville is a great place to go to school..it was an honor to graduate from there, and say that is where i went to school...i am proud of Pikeville High School and all that it represents!
Thank you for allowing me to have my opinion posted about this school. I feel that if you work hard at learning and have a teacher that is all for teaching and not wanting to be in with the crowd (so to speak) the student would get an overall better education but at pikeville high and elem. If you do not come from wealth you are basically an outsider but if you are a great sports player and you dont have the income im sure they will accomidate with your needs. What im simply saying it is about the kids and their education not if your kids wear abercrombi and holister or if you go to a barginstore because this is a fact, these kids that r in school today are going to be our future leaders.I wished i had chosen a better school! and i have money !
Phs has better than average academics. However the quality of life for students is horrible. As previously mentioned, phs is very political. Teachers and staff have always(and still do) play favorites with the kids and with the parents. I've seen students' lives get ruined by phs. I know these things to be true because i'm a recent graduate from phs, and i'm not proud to say so. I was teased and made fun of at phs because i wasn't popular enough to eat lunch at the table with the cool kids.
My kids are currently enrolled in the city schools. When I first came to this area I made it a point to find a place in the city limits for the schools. Now I intend on moving into the county for the same reason. The academics at these schools are commendable. I agree with the parent listed above though. There are racial issues at this school and there are certain students that get special treatment. I'm thoroughly disappointed in this place. If they're people skills matched their academic skills it would be a top notch school.
Pikeville high school is very good school and provides a great learning environment for all students. There are many Extracurricular activites and there are lots of parent groups. My kids really got a great educaiton there. The only negative is that things are very political and students are a bit racist coming from a rural community. Otherwise good school.
My childeren have been attending pikeville elem. And pikeville high for the past year and half and im very pleased with all areas of development. We have lived all over the country and my kids have gone to private and military schools and i have found this is the best choice by far. We are proud to be a panther family.
