This designated smoking area was used back on the 70's and 80's. RHS is a tobacco free school and has the highest standards and a no tolerance policy. The area may still be there but I can guarantee that it is not intended for that!

Average is what Russell has become under the leadership of the current Superintendent and board memebers. If you have been keeping up with the news lately you know what I am talking about.

The school is horrible. It has a designated tobacco use area which I think is disgraceful . The kids and the teachers have no respect for others.

Russell High School offers a vast variety of choices for our youth. Academic teams are fantastic and are top of the line in the state. Music, Dance and Theater are offered also and are intertaining. The Red Devils are probably known for their Sports teams and continue to excell in their respective programs. I am proud to say that I have two children in the school sysytem and Russell is number one!

We moved into this area three years ago. Our daughter's first full school year was 7th grade in RMS. She had a terrible experience!! The children were clickish and hard to get to know. She was made to feel like and outsider. Some of the teachers she had were rude to her and made themselves unavalilable to us. This was until they received and unexpected visit from one of us. Only after that visit and some very STRESSFUL times for our child did she receive what she needed. But by this time it was too late. They had already done enough damage to her confidence in herself. As for the High School, she is now a Freshman and she loves it. The teachers and administration at the High School treat the students as young adults and understand that the students are maturing into our future and are always ready to help.

My grandson is in high school here and my granddaughter goes to the middle school. The care and concern over both children have been outstanding. My grandson has some special problems and all the teachers and counselors readily jumped in to put a plan in place to help him and continue to look out for his needs. I have to say, I am both extremely surprised and extremely grateful that both children are in this school system. It is absolutely awesome to know these professional, outstanding teachers and counselors are there to help without question or judgement. I've never seen anything like it.

Outstanding School District. This community is the most warm place and the people are awesome. The school district is focused on children and it shows. It is easy to contact the schools and the teachers and administrators are very interested and helpful. The school district offers seventeen Varsity sports and is competitive in all. Every student has a chance to participate in athletics. The academic teams consistantly win the State Govenors Cup. It is just a great environment.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Kentucky used the Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT) to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 through 12 in reading, social studies, science, writing, and math. The Elementary School results displayed on GreatSchools profiles are for grades 3 through 5 combined for each subject. Middle School results are for grades 6 though 8 combined, and High School results are for grades 10 though 12 combined. The KCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Kentucky.
