My children have both had an excellent experience at McKell. The teachers truely care about the children and meeting their individual needs. Test scores show that this school scored above the state average in most academic areas for the 2006-2007 school year. They are ahead of the other elementary schools in the district. There is always a warm welcome feeling when you enter the doors. They are always willing to go above and beyond when it comes to the children. You couldn't ask for a better educational experience. Keep up the great work!

This school could use major improvement. Many parents I know have taken their kids out of this school and relocated due to other schools in the area having better scores and overall academic performance. I am considering doing the same.

I feel very fortunate that both my son and daughter have attended school here under the direction of Mr. Tom Kouns and his staff. Being the noncustoidal parent and living 2 hours away I feel that when possible they have put forth a very good effort in keeping me informed as to my son and daughter's acidemic progress in spite of some very difficult circumstances.I have the upmost respect for these teachers and their Principle.

About the tests


Until 2010-2011, Kentucky used the Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT) to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 through 12 in reading, social studies, science, writing, and math. The Elementary School results displayed on GreatSchools profiles are for grades 3 through 5 combined for each subject. Middle School results are for grades 6 though 8 combined, and High School results are for grades 10 though 12 combined. The KCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Kentucky. Beginning in 2011-2012, Kentucky switched to the K-PREP and EOC exams.
