I love Whitesville Elementary because all the staff is so caring. The kids are taught well by the teachers. We have gifted programs for those who need them, we also have programs that help those students that struggle. I love every staff member Whitesville has. Our Principal Mrs. Appleby says we are a family and it is true, we are.

This school is fun with top results. The teachers and staff are very helpful, cheerful, enthusiastic towards parents and students. The Principal is fun loving and obliging, yet maintains firm discipline in a safe clean environment. The school has excellent resources including a newly fitted out music room ,2 computer labs, good expanse of reading material for every interest and level. Teachers are very aware of struggling children as well as children who need extra challenges and work well to ensure each child gets the required help. The teachers I have encountered, with my four children at this school, all have high expectations for their students. Reading circles, oral circles and writing circles help to keep children on their reading level.94% of P1-G5 students are reading on grade level. There are plenty of extra curricular activities organized and parents are welcomed and encouraged to be involved in their child's education in the classroom.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Kentucky used the Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT) to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 through 12 in reading, social studies, science, writing, and math. The Elementary School results displayed on GreatSchools profiles are for grades 3 through 5 combined for each subject. Middle School results are for grades 6 though 8 combined, and High School results are for grades 10 though 12 combined. The KCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Kentucky.
