This school is excellent. The principal is the best I've seen. The teachers are very caring and helpful. The school is more like a little family. I feel like my daughter is well cared for there. I don't like the lunch room though. Bad food and they seem to mismanage money.

I am not impressed with this school at all. The teachers do not communicate well with the parents , the principal does not care about your concerns. If your child has no problems doibg the work on their own, etc then this is a goof school for them. If your child needs additional help then they will be left behind! The principal will use your aurhoritive position to try and bully you and your child if there are problems.

this is an amazing school. I started going to tioga elementary in second grade and I made friends on the first day.All the teachers are nice as well as the students and I struggled but they helped me and I can say I am doing way better. Tioga Elementary is a very good school.

This year is challenging for my son. We moved to a new city and he has to make new friends. Making new friends is not something he is good at. He struggles to relate to children his own age. The school has expressed their concern for this matter. A bigger concern is the fact that he is bored in class and the teacher has not made an effort to teach him on his level. I provided the school with information on my child's abilities before school started, but it was obvious that they never read anything I had given them. He is still getting basic math and reading work. He is capable of 4th grade math and 5th or 6th grade reading. I'm very disappointed in the academics thus far. I had heard better things than what we are experiencing. My son is also having problems in PE. He comes home with new injuries weekly and tells me the coach doesn't care about him getting injured. I spoke to the Principal about it, but she didn't seem too concerned. Her thoughts were that the injuries are happening on the playground. If that was really the case, my son would tell me so. He has no problem speaking out when he is hurt and always tells me what is wrong. I'm very disappointed.

I have never in my life dealt with so much nonsense in such a short period of time. In trying to be a proactive parent involved with my 4th graders education and looking out for his best interests, I have encountered little more than rudeness. My 4th grader did not pass his courses. He did not pass the LEAP test. My husband and I both felt that repeating 4th grade may be what was best for him, as he clearly did not know the material well enough to enter 5th grade with a strong foundation. We meant only to do what was best for him. When I expressed this to his teacher on the phone, she got sarcastic with me and hung up in my face. Meanwhile the principal was on the phone to my mother, who has no involvement in making these decisions, trying to convince her that -we- were messing everything up. Fast forward to now. We agreed to send him to summer school because they would not drop it. We waited and waited for a phone call to let us know what time the bus would pick him up, and it never came. I called, and they said we'd find out on the first day of summer school. No one has yet bothered to give us this information.

I have never seen a school put more priorty on cheerleading then on acadamics. My daughter is in the fourth grade and instead of giving them a good foundation to grow on they are teaching the leap and ohio test. Not teaching them how to use math formulas but to memorize math. Such as Mutiplication tables. I have to say that if a child is not required to show his or her work in math then how are the teachers going to know where they need help.

We moved here recently from out of town. At first we were nervous about uniforms and all since our old school did not have them. My kids fit right in the first day. Which to any parent is a great feeling! My kids have been going there now for a little over a month and they love it to pieces! The staff is the nicest ever and I am so glad my kids are a part of Tioga Elementary!!!

My daughter has gone to Tioga Elem. (TES) since Kindergarten and is now in the 6th grade. The educational curriculum is great, and they offer multiple extracurricular activities, such as cheerleading, basketball, choir, 4-H, BETA and band. They have open house, school fairs and other events in the evenings that parents and children can attend that creates a sense of community within the school. Students in 4th and up participate in Social Studies and Science Fairs. As a parent, you can be as involved as you want, they really appreciate parental involvement. Each of the teachers I've interacted with seemed to want to be there and seemed fair and compassionate. Mrs. Pippen is a great principal. My daughter had a problem on the bus last year; and she took care of it ASAP.

I love this school! The staff is awesome and they always make people feel welcome in their school. I have 2 children that have been there since they were in Pre-K(now if the 4th and 2nd grade). We will be moving and I hope that I find a school that is just as welcome as this one is for Parent involvement and everything else this school does for their students. If you need anything the Staff will help in any way they can!! I give this school a 5 star!

I personally think that Tioga Elementary is an excellent school. My son attends, and he has three cousins also attending. Of all the schools around this area, Tioga is number one on my list.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Louisiana used the integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP) to assess students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 in math, English language arts, science, and social studies. The iLEAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Louisiana.

In preparation for new assessments in 2014-15, Louisiana is including more common core aligned content in LEAP and iLEAP tests in 2012-13 and in 2013-14. The percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Louisiana used the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program for the 21st Century (LEAP 21) to assess students in grades 4 and 8 in math, English language arts, science and social studies. The LEAP 21 is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Louisiana. The goal is for all students to score at or above basic on the test.
