Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Great decline in academics; more on raising money. It is not the same as it was with excellence

My daughter has done well at SJA and the activities are rewarding, however I still can not understand how the school seems to continuously turn its back on the costs and burdens the parents must beat. Yes, this is a great school. One with a rich history and curriculum of excellence. But you can't convince me that the computer program is designed to help curb the costs. There is no way that many computers should be that high. No way. I realize the staff is one that needs to be retained but it comes at a high price and not one that SHA or the diocese really care much about.

I attend St. Joseph's Academy and I absolutely love it. I take all honors and am involved in various extra curricular activities. The rigorous coursework will ensure my success in the future. The community is very close knit and supportive! I love SJA!!

Aside from the Educational side of SJA, they re extra circular activities are incredible. First of the extra circular activities is their athletic program. Each and every team at SJA is nothing short of excellent. SJA has won many state championship titles and there will be many more to come. As an SJA athlete, I can say that the coaches are great and they work with each girl to help her succeed and shine. Also another important group of extra circular activities include the numerous clubs. Clubs are a fun way to be active in the SJA community. They bring the girls together through a common interest with fun activities. So pretty much SJA is an fantastic school, but I agree that this school isn t for everyone. SORRY, MY MESSAGE WOULD ONLY SUBMIT IF I DID 3 SEPERATELY!

Being a semi-recent graduate (2008) I thought I might comment on some of the issues presented in the previous reviews: 1. Stress Yes, St. Josephs is somewhat stressful, but honestly, if your high school is not, you are not being pushed hard enough. SJA is a COLLEGE PREPRATORY HIGH SCHOOL. If you do not want to be well prepared for college, do not attend SJA. If you dont do well with stress, see a councelor and dont take honors classes. 2. Computers Yes, as a freshman they are extremely distracting, but by sophmore year (even 2nd semester freshman), youre over the new computer excitement. The technology access at SJA has made me SO much more prepared for college. I laugh when I see students in class shopping or on Facebook, because those are the ones offering to pay for my notes. So all in all, the computers are definatly a plus.

I am a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy and I absolutely loved my experiences there. I was involved in many activities on campus and played sports as well. The computer aspect of the school has positives and negatives. They can be distracting in the classroom, but it also teaches students that if they don't have self control and get their work done they will quickly fall behind. As a student at LSU now, I am much more computer savy and experienced than many of the people in my classes. Higher education incorporates the computer in pretty much everything from communicating with teachers, projects, homework, or even test taking. Becoming familiar with the computer at a young age and during a time of such techological development can only give the girls a big step a head of other students and into their careers.

I attended this school along with all of my other sisters and it prepared me well for college. It is an amazing school and all of my fellow classmates were so close. I considered the school a second home! Also, SJA offers many clubs and organizations to join. They also have amazing teachers and it is just an amazing school! I have so many great memories from this place and I will remember the great lessons I learned always!

I am currently a student at St. Joseph's Academy and love it. Even though it does get difficult at times, it is expected of a school like this. When applying for SJA, one needs to take into consideration that this is a school that prepares you for college. The teachers expect the students to put forth their best effort in everything they do. This is only because they want the girls to become more responsible individuals, while preparing them for the real world. The teachers and administration are very helpful and give devoted one on one attention to someone who is struggling. The campus at SJA is beautiful and to learn in a Catholic environment that has been around for quite some time is truly unique.

St.Joseph's Academy was a dissappointment for my family. When we decided to send my oldest daughter, we had heard nothing but great comments about the school. Unfortunately, during the time my older daughter was finishing up high school and my younger daughter was entering high school, there was a change in the administration. Since that time, community approval of the school has declined and I could definately see a difference in the education that my 2 daughters received. this is unfortunate for a school to suddenly decline that has such a long and prestigious history.

My daughter attended St. Joseph's, and absolutely loved it. She transferred from Episcopal after her freshman year, and said it was the best thing she has ever done. She is now a sophmore at Boston College and says it's a breeze. I highly reccomend this to any parent or student.

I am a student at SJA and I was reading these reviews and could not help but notice that everyone keeps saying SJA puts a lot of stress on the student. This school is a college prep that is supposed to get you ready for college and your adult life. Yes the computers pose as a great distraction but you learn self discipline. People do complain about the stress but they also come back and thank the teachers because college is a breeze for them. I also play volleyball there and I must say our athletic programs are outstanding. This is a great school and I wish that all girls had a chance to go here.

Im not a parent however, I am currently attending St.Joseph's Academy as an eleventh grader. I have attended SJA since freshman year. My experience has been tough. Like many said, this school is not for everyone. There are many things it lacks. The school seems to be worried more about their 'reputation' than whats really important, their students. There is an unbelievable amount of stress put on us as students everyday. This has caused many problems for myself. My older sister also attended school but had a total different view of it, she very much enjoyed SJA. The all girls tends to be a problem also. Sure its great we can roll out of bed and go right to school The computers are great, only because we can easily be distracted by emailing, shopping, and chatting. I would take these things into concideration.

I'm not a parent; I am currently attending St. Joseph's Academy, and I feel like I need to comment. It's true that some girls have trouble working on their laptops because they're tempted to play games/email/IM/etc., so any girl with self-control problems definitely shouldn't come here. However, those who can get their work done and use their computers properly can really enjoy the experience. The classes are challenging, the teachers, for the most part, are fantastic, the campus is gorgeous (we were designated a landmark this year), and the all-girls atmosphere is very relaxed. Like they all say, though, it's not for everyone.

Our experience with St. Joseph's Academy was not so great. The school is one consisting of high stress and little appreciation for the girls. I found that this school was more directed toward their reputation and status in the social eye. The school believes they are the best beyond any other, but I find that the administration is inconsiderate and uncaring toward the students. Far too stressful, far too inconsiderate.

St. Joseph's Academy is a great school for a girl who excels academically, especially in math and science. Despite the recent change in administration, SJA is not for everyone. The constant access to the computer poses a problem, and many of the girls are extremely stressed. We wish we had listened more closely to the many current and former students who warned us, 'It's not for everyone.' It isn't. Be sure to inquire about how many girls transfer at the end of the first semester (and even later). The more interesting statistic would be how many girls are desperate to transfer to a different school.

My experience as a parent with SJA is not so great. If your child is motivated and self-disciplined, then this school will probably work out well for you. For my daughter, the computer has been a real source of frustration, having never been able to come up with an appropriate method of managing the misuse of it by our daughter. The school has not been able to come up with a helpful plan either. If you have a daughter is very 'social', you probably do not want to send her to his school.

My daughter attended SJA and is currently doing very well in the college curriculum. She is extremely proud of the school and its' christian standards. The young women learn self esteen & how to make good life choices. Computers are standard tools from freshman year onward. Blue Ribbon School of Excellence with high community involvement. Extremely high graduation rate and placement to college.

I am a current student at SJA and have loved my experience thus far. This school has everything I could have ever wanted in my high school! I am very excited about the remaining years of my high school career at St. Joseph's Academy.

SJA has given both of my daughters a more than adequate training for college. My only disappointment was that I did not feel that they were taught to write well enough for college in their English classes. I know that the English Professors would work with the SJA English Department to better prepare the students for college classes. Grammar was another area lacking in high school. Due to the educational background both of my daughters received at SJA, they have done very well in college. Thanks, SJA, for all that you have given us!
